Hi all,

I was driving along the highway one day, and the car in front of me swerved suddenly only to have a piece of shredded tire in the road way hit and take my radar sensor unit off the bracket on my 18 accord. Went to Honda to find out the cost to replace the unit as the old one stopped working, found out the cost was $794. I wasn’t ready to drop that on the radar so I opt to not get it replaced. Fast forward a couple weeks later I went on eBay and saw the radar unit and the bracket for $280 on eBay, so I’m like that’s a steal (provided that it was working as well as the seller said it would). I called two different dealerships to see how much labor costs were to install and reprogram it, and both times the people in the service department had no clue what the radar was and how it worked with Honda sensing....which is shocking to say the least. I expected that the dealerships would have at least have an idea of what the radar in front of the intercooler does, and they had me on the phone for over an hour to figure out what the radar was, only to find out that they will charge $420 to install it. Any thoughts about how I should proceed ? Should I just go ahead and buy it from the dealership and have them install? Or go the cheap route and buy one off eBay ?

Assuming the $794 covers installation that would surely be the way to go.

Did you contact your insurance company? They should be covering this unless you went cheap on the deductible...

794 plus installation came out to $1,000 and yea I thought about using my insurance but I have 1,000 deductible so it would be pointless.

Alrighty then...I'd at least find a dealership that knows how to install/calibrate it.
Yeeeaaahhh.

This should be a comprehensive insurance claim. That's crazy if you have a $1,000 deductible for comprehensive. Lower that to $0 or $100. Otherwise you'll be paying out of pocket every time you replace your windshield too.

Nope. The driver hit an object in the roadway, that is collision. Collision claims can cause an increase in premiums. However, I would never carry a deductible as high as $1000. No way.

Buy the one on eBay, install it yourself or local mechanic then disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

Yeah what happened? I am in the exact same situation :( I don’t know what to do
Basically I looked up all the part numbers I needed and bought them from eBay and installed them myself. However I had to bring the car to Honda to have them realign the radar properly.

Any updates? Kind of in the same situation
You can buy the radar in good condition from eBay and install it. You would have to bring the car to Honda so they can readjust the radar once installed.

Do you really need it? IMO I would not bother at all. I dont want it, dont need it and would rather not have it at all. I will drive my car, i dont need it to drive itself.
Hmmm... Why did you buy a new car if you're just going to forget about the main safety feature of the car? You should of just bought an older model

because i like everything else about the 2018+ and i'm not interested in older cars at this point. i'm not sure why i should be required to LOVE everything about car and feel the need to be forced to use a single component which i don't like.

не могли бы вы сказать мне, какой номер вашего радара? они украли у меня, и я не знаю, как заказать новый, который подходит

could you tell me what is the number of your radar? they stole from me and I don’t know how to order a new one that fits

how much Honda dealer charge you for readjust the radar? can you not adjust it yourself?
They charged me $500 to do the aiming. You cant do it yourself, they use a special computer to aim it.

That would be great to just disregard it, but I think a rock or something just hit mine last week because one of the anchors came off and now it's not working. Without it you have no cruise control and lane departure warnings don't work as well. I use cruise control a lot and do a lot of driving so lane mitigation does help.

Try switching the cruise to good old standard cruise that does not use the radar. The car can operate with basic cruise control.
