Does anyone have experience painting over plastic chrome trim pieces? Out of all the mods for grills and chrome strips, I would rather paint them w/ something like Dupli-Color Metalcast in the smoke/gunmetal color. Do I have to sand it down a little bit? I read i have to sand it lightly and then spray the "ground coat" what is that? primer? and then the metalcast? It sounds too involved. I want to just clean it and spray it.

I don't like the bright chrome on my PMM. I want to paint the grille, window chrome trim and possibly all the emblems. I think it would look good on PMM.

Anyone w/ EXPERIENCE doing this type of stuff please chime in.

Yea the smoke color is what im looking for to de-bling some bling. Nice idea for the interior trim...might as well do the interior door handles and shifter base and perhaps the steering wheel trim as they are the same color on the EX.

Do i have to clear coat/wet-sand/polish after painting the plastic chrome trim? I don't think i'll be doing the interior as it would involve those steps. I'm just gonna do the out side chrome for now. So i just clean and tape things up and spray rite?

Ok i'll add a clear coat, I think satin clear coat would be nice.

Although it would also look nice using this stuff to smoke out the headlight chrome but it has to be baked to take it apart, which i dont find comfortable doing...since im planing on HIDs, the darker shade won't be affected too much...

shhh....im puting HIDs on my reflectors....shhh dont tell no one! lol i'll be another victim of hate crime on these forums...i can't afford a retro. Even if i could spending >$500 on headlights is not worth it, i rather spend that on an inspire trunk conversion/better tires/gas

If you can hook me up w/ a retro job at $400 flat, i'll do it.

Tell me your dirty lil secret of getting OEM parts for the retro for a "1/4" of the cost please! Or better yet buy the parts for me and send them or point me where/how to get them. ebay is where i see the "regular" prices, junk yards, i dont trust as know knows if the parts are still good. I like a local guy to do it too...who's in LA?
