So I'm not sure what's going on with messaging. never used the feature on this forum before, but unlike other forums, I don't seem to be getting any here.

Hoping I can just share a dropbox link to the actual 3D file. From there, if anyone wishes to have one printed, they can pick from the multiple 3D printer houses that provide this service and just upload the file from the below link. A few notes below:

1. Material: With FDM printers, there are typically 2 choices, PLA or ABS. PLA I saw was around $16 for the part and ABS is about double. ABS has a much better heat tolerance for inside the car, but having said that, I used PLA and have had no issues with deformation (just don't leave the part in the sun for example on your front seat). If you leave it in the tray the whole time, it should be fine. My only concern if I recall was that some of the sites when choosing PLA don't allow you to select the color of the material. I'm guessing it's a cost saving feature for them so that they can just run the print on any available machine. So if you do choose this route, and you wanted black for example, you may have to paint the part. Painting SLA and ABS is just like painting any plastics. You can use normal spray paint, just not heavy coats. Suggested to do 2-3 light coats. If you choose ABS, you can select the color.
2. Build direction: I designed this part so that no printing support would be necessary. They should build it so that the top of the part is the first layer of the build which also has the benefit of making that first layer that you will interact with much smoother appearance wise. I wasn't able to determine how to choose the build direction when I uploaded the file to check the costs, so not sure if that option is available, but either way, I would expect them to print in the orientation that would eliminate the need for support structure.

Overall as noted previously, pretty happy with the part. It does tend to shift a bit when I try and grab my phone at the end of the ride, but it drops back in place once the phone is out. Otherwise, o issues. Has only had one occurrence in the past few weeks where it didn't charge. Otherwise it's been charging every ride. Remember, this is for an Iphone 12 with a fairly thin phone cover. I haven't tried how it works with no phone cover so can't guarantee positioning there.

Good luck!

What site can I send them this file?
There are 2 major ones (hubs.com and xometry.com)

there are many others though. Unfortunately, I just entered the information on one and didn't realize they have a $90 minimum fee...... That is lousy. Not sure it is worth it for anyone to go this route. If you can find someone locally that has a 3D printer.....

I ordered on CloudCraft. $11.46 including shipping. I don't know anything about them, but it was easy to order.
Thanks for the link, do you remember what file unit you put down for the measurements? Mm,cm, or inches? Thanks!

Update: The part arrived the other day.

During my morning commute (45 minutes or so), my phone remained charging the whole time. On the way home, it stopped charging after a few minutes. I tried adjusting it a few times, and the same thing happened.

So, I'm back to wired charging, but Idbiker, I appreciate your hard work and your generosity in sharing the file! I am curious to hear if anybody had more luck than I did with the part.

I was about to comment with a update and then saw ur update. After about a 30 minute drive it remained charged for me. I will keep an eye out for it, thanks idbiker. For $12 it’s a great solution , even if it works 50 percent of the time that’s better than our current setup from Honda.

So coincidently late last week I started to experience the same thing. It wouldn’t charge when I’d get in the car for the morning commute but would for the return. I’m baffled by this. The only thing I can think of is the temps have cooled down here about the same time and wondering however unlikely this could be that a lower temperature could affect the wireless charging??? I k ow, that seems highly unlikely but I can’t think of anything that would be different. My car is parked at night in the garage though so it really shouldn’t get colder than 60 in there right now but usually after work the car is parked in the sun so nice and toasty….
Sorry this wasn’t more consistent. I thought I had a good run lol

Keeping my fingers crossed. If mine continues to flip flop I may try to adjust further if there even is a constant solution possible. Again thought I had found a solution….

Just curious if you gave up completely on this. I’ve also noticed some random charging issues with this part but for the most part it seems to be working. I find that on the morning drive, wireless charging at car start does not work, but after 3-5 minutes for whatever reason the charging finally works. The return ride back home after the car has been sitting in the parking lot, the charging begins right away. Trying to figure out if there is a better solution so any input is welcome.

Good timing, because I just got a car wash a few minutes ago, and thought to myself "I think I'm done with this piece" and threw it in the glove box before I pulled in.

Before today, I kept the piece in place and put the phone in it occasionally. Sometimes it charges, sometimes it doesn't. Similar to before the piece came, I only put it there if I don't need a charge, so any added juice is a bonus. I stopped paying attention to whether or not it was charging (when I first got it, I kept glancing over, which I wasn't crazy about because it took my attention away from the road).

I appreciate your hard work. For now, the best solution for me is plugging in my phone during longer drives, which I do in the center console to avoid unsightly wires in the "phone cubby."

Definitely seems for whatever reason that cold temperatures also affect the already poor wireless charging operation on the vehicle. Ever since it’s gotten colder out, my “fix” seems to take longer and longer from when I first start the car to actually start charging. Now both ways. Not just in the morning. Why might temperatures affect this I have no idea.

Could you share the actual 3D model file? I'd like to Modify the design to fit an iPhone Mini.

Thanks!
