Just a brief update on this project. The reliability of this “fix” has gone down substantially. I’m still thinking this is related to the temperatures since fall started and now winter has come, it takes longer and longer for the charging to kick in. Now it seems like 15+ minutes in my ride before it starts to charge. Likewise though if it’s a sunny day and not too cold and the temps in the car are fairly warm, it seems to substantially improve the charging. No idea if this is really the cause but just seems to be pretty consistent. Will see what happens as Spring approaches.

i decided to put a little more time in determining if there was any more improvement possible. Upon shifting around the phone slightly (4mm towards the back of the car) from its current set location from the insert, I discovered a zone that shows significant improvement. Been testing for the past week or so and only once during that time did it require me to remove and reinsert the phone to begin charging and temperatures which I still believe are the main issue have been cold during this week so I’m pretty happy. Going to try to shift the opening even more and see if I can totally eliminate the blinking green orange lights. Will post updates soon hopefully

I’d still like to a 14 Pro Max solution.

I have no way of testing that unfortunately since I don't own a 14 Pro Max to determine if there is a sweet spot for it.
Best I can do is guess. Do you use a cover for it? looking online it looks like the length and width are 160.7x77.6mm without any cover. I'd suggest a 0.5mm spacing around the perimeter so it is easy enough to remove. If you do have a cover, let me know the dimensions with the cover on. To be honest, the structure of this insert model with a 14 Pro Max may get rather flimsy due to the height of the phone, there isn't a lot of space left for top and bottom frame.

Been testing for over a week now and I'm really happy with the results. Only once has it not gone immediately into charge mode. Not sure why it happened on that occasion, but I was able to remove the phone a couple times and drop it back in and it then started charging for that one time. Cold weather no longer seems to be affecting the charging (if that was ever the issue). It seems in the end, I needed to shift my pocket forward towards the cabin about 6mm to reduce the failure to charge issue. I’ve tried swapping out to my old template that had issues and it still has issues while the new version is much better. I’ll link a file soon to the new design. Again, this is for an Iphone 12 with a fairly minimal phone case. I'll create another file that will be if you don't use a case at all so that there is less "slop" in the pocket area. Look in previous posts in this thread for user's that have identified some good inexpensive options for getting parts made. Hopefully this works for all of you as well.

I don’t use a case actually.
