I have never had trouble stowing the gas cap on a car while pumping gas before I got my 2013 Accord.
It takes a lot of fiddling to get it to stay in place on the door.
What were they thinking when they designed it?

Really?? I thought it was pretty good. They made a groove in the threaded part of the fuel cap that the flange on the fuel door slides into. I've always had the cap fall out of the holder on other cars except BMW - they have a rod sticking out of the cap that goes into a slot on the fuel door.

I have no issues with this cap holder. I've had issues with other ones tho.

The groove fits the thread of the cap nicely!

I haven't had any issues with it. I didn't even notice that there is a groove in the threads to fit in the flange on the gas cap door. It's about the same thing as on my 2000 Accord Coupe.

The trick is to give the cap a slight twist when placing on the holder. That allows the treads to find their groove more easily. I never have any issues with the cap.

I preferred the one on the 7th generation, but the current one is more than sufficient.

If there's a problem at all, it should be easily resolved after a using it a time or two.

You're definitely doing something wrong, 'cause the thing is dead simple to use. Read the owners' manual. The groove is actually BEFORE the threads, it's just a groove that runs all the way around, not part of the threads.

Is the the holder or the user?

I say it's the user.
If only I had a fiddle so I could pose next to the fuel door.

You know I think for a few $$ you can get a cap that threads over the tank threads and just unscrew it and let it hang. My last car the Impala had this. Additionally, it's extremely hard to misplace because it will attach to the car threads. I haven't yet even opened mine up as I'm still on the tank fill from the dealer, I just went over 112mi today...still an awesome ride for the price imo

Am I the only person who didn't know this feature existed at all, let alone on my Accord? Lol

I've always just let the cap hang and I've always been a little gentle about it because I was afraid it could scratch the paint. No more!!!
