How To: Remove the Front Bumper on a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe

Things You'll Need:
1. #2 Philips Screwdriver
2. Thin, Flathead Screwdriver
3. Nice big sleeping-bag or something to put under the front end of your car to prevent the bumper from contacting the ground
4. Someone to help you

Step 1: Front Bulkhead Cover
a. Use flathead to pop open the 7 clips and remove

DIY: Removing the Front Bumper on an 08 Coupe (cont.)

Step 2: Remove the Bumper

a. Use flathead to pop open the 10 clips below the bumper and remove. There are more than 10 down there, but with a little investigating, it's obvious which ones hold the bumper and which one's don't.
b. Unscrew the self-tapping screws in the wheel wells. (1 per wheel well)

What other available instructions don't tell you is that there are 7 additional spots on each side of the top of the bumper that attach the bumper to the rest of the car. These will require a little patience and the flathead to unclip.

The outer most three (just outside the wheel well)

The inner four, below the headlight housing

**When you finally have the bumper loose, don't forget to disconnect your fogs! (if applicable)

There you have it.

Thanks for the DIY. You just earned yourself a permanent spot in the 8th Gen FAQ sticky :)

Awesome post!! I will be doing mine tomorrow night!!

Is it similar for the sedan?

How exactly did you use a flathead screwdriver to remove the 7 clips below the headlights and by the wheels?

take that resonator off ;)
I took it off maybe two days after I made this DIY, over a year ago. Trust me, it was one of the first things to go. That and the OEM headlights.

Or were you winking at me because you knew that and I've been telling everyone and their mother lately to remove the resonator? I've seen so many pix of CAIs with the resonator plastic still in front of the battery.

Carefully use the flat head to leverage the lower bumper (with the 4 loops/openings) off of the 4 respective clips securing them. You have to literally use the screwdriver as a lever to sort of pop the bottom apart from the body of the car. I say do so carefully because those little plastic loops will bend a bit to give you slack, but they will also break and there is no way to really replace them.

Just get your hands in there and be patient. Don't over-force anything. I can't really explain it much better than that.

Alright thanks for the help. Hopefully I get my new grills in on time tomorrow

It's a shame you don't live closer, otherwise I would be glad to help you out. If you get stuck, PM me and I will shoot you my cell number and try to walk you through it - I'm on DA.NET all day while at work, even if it's just minimized, to answer PMs and stuff. If I remember correctly, the bottom loops need to come upward and away from the body of the car to free them from the clips. Good luck buddy! It's really not too hard, just be patient.

Alright thanks man it will be a great help if I do get stuck. The grills are "Out for Delivery" right now so I should get them sometime today.

The clips (on the bumper) under the lights are attached to hooks (on the actual car) that are facing up or down?

I can see the clips here [pic from salvag's DIY] and the hooks that they are attached to but I cannot tell how they clip together. You said I should pull slightly up so I'm assuming the hooks face upward.

You've probably already took the bumper off...The first three clips face upwards. I managed to "pull up and out" quickly and they popped right out with no problems. Becareful of the next four, they face downwards. Use a flat head to pry them upwards (slowly one by one) while pulling the bumper out. I've got some good pictures of the clips from my recent project which I'll try to post soon.
