Hi all,

I've got an '04 coupe. The one thing I don't like about it is the look of the tail lights. The 06-07 versions have considerably nicer looking ones. Does anyone know what's involved in putting the 06-07 tail lights on an 04? Something tells me it won't be a direct fit...

Thanks!

From what I have read here, you need to replace the bumper cover and trunk lid in order to install the 06-07 lights. Or, you can save money and get LED taillights off eBay for your 04. They make them in red, smoke, and black. Far cheaper than trying to rebuild the rear-end on the 04.

From what I've read the rear quarter panels have to be modified also. Besides the rear bumper and trunk. Then the wiring is probably different too. I think it would be cheaper/easier to sell the 04, and buy an 06.

Thanks for the info guys. Too bad, I was hoping it would be a relatively simple job :/...

I recall somebody posted here referencing a thread in V6Performance.net that only bumper, trunk and the tail-lights are required for the swap, the quarter panels stay untouched.

I may very well have had this swap done if it wasn't that the Alabaster Silver is apparently not quite the same as Satin Silver Metallic.......

And DON'T anybody tell me the two colors are the same or even close enough, I don't need any temptations! :D

This was discussed before and the quarter panels do not require modifications. But it will be quite expensive to get a bumper cover, have it painted, then get a trunk lid and have that painted, and the tail lights too. Those parts are not sold pre-painted.

Does it go both ways? In theory you could modify an '06-'07 to show the older tail lights right?

I think I'd only do it if I could find someone who was interested in a direct swap, ha.

there is a picture on v6p of a guy who did 06 tailights on an 04, but did NOT do the bumper or trunk. There is a slight mismatch in body line but he had a decklid spoiler which actually gave it an interesting effect. As soon as v6p comes back up, I'll give you guys the link!
