Hey guys, I am soon to be purchasing and installing the UR Tensioner Pulley (stock diameter). Rather than re-use the OEM belt, I thought I might as well replace it.

I have already purchased the Gates K060841 Serpentine Belt/Fan Belt found here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00498DSM6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Upon asking UR for confirmation of whether this is the correct OEM replacement part, their representative has suggested that I go with this Continental Elite (CE) belt instead:

https://www.amazon.com/Continental-Elite-4060840-Poly-V-Serpentine/dp/B000C36BKI

He claims: "...they make all other belts seem like rubber covered string. They are a little more expensive but they are incredibly flexible which helps them run cooler and last longer."

I have no reason to doubt his recommendation, aside from that UR may have a nice business connect with CE for all their belts.

tldr:
- worth replacing Gates belt for CE belt?
- is the UR rep yanking my chain (or belt in this case lol)?

Thanks, guys.

I had Gatorbacks (now CE) for 90K miles. Good belt that's more tolerant of worn / misaligned pullies compared to other brands.

Goodyear Gatorback has been the longest lasting belt for me. Bando was OEM (same belt as sold in the aftermarket). Gates is what I have now, sometimes you can get them cheaper under the NAPA brand. Go ahead & use the Gates since you have already bought it, next time spring for the CE , but will cost more. The Gatorbacks use to be made in Canada with tensile steel, EPDM rubber. Since Goodyear belt divison was bought by Continental Tires, hope the belts are still the same.

I think any belt would work fine on the Accord. On my truck however, the Continental Elite was the only belt that didn't start squealing in just a couple months (including Gates). There must be a pulley misalignment problem, but as long as the CE works I'm happy. I searched the internet for a Continental Elite for the Accord, and didn't find any for my 03 V6. The OEM belts I have now will probably last longer than my ownership of the Accord anyway.

Continental Elite, or what used to be Goodyear Gatorback is the belt to get. I have used OEM, Bando, and Gates, all seem to stretch out sooner than the gatorback belt.
Thanks.

I run OEM belt... made by Bando. The last one lasted around 160K and I only changed it cause I felt sorry for it. What is UR and what is wrong with your current tensioner?

This is for i4, so look up V6 if interested. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CMIG66/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Edit: Reread. If you already have the Gates belt, just run it. Why bother going any further?
UR = Unorthodox Racing, company producing aftermarket parts for our cars

So yeah, nothing is wrong with anything on my end. I really enjoy having fun with my 6-6 as my DD, and extra power would be greatly appreciated. :devil

Upon hearing everyone's praise of CE's belts, I will be purchasing that instead. Assuming the Gates belt will fit my brother's 07 V6 AT, I'll hold onto it. Otherwise, I have to check the return policy lol.

The bando belt on the V6 stretches out faster than the gatorback belt.

The UR idler pulley saves weight the belt needs to spin in the serpentine belt's path. It's a safer mod than changing out the crank pulley with a lightweight one. Idler Pulley
I didn't realize that the lightweight vs. OEM-sized pulley mod were for different pulleys. I had assumed they were just different sizes/weights for the same exact pulley. Good to know!

If you already purchased the Gates belt just use that, however the CE belt is definitely the better of the two.
Do you know if the Gates belt I referenced fits the 07 V6 AT as well as my 6-6MT? Trying to pass it to my brother as mentioned above.

Thanks for the info, interesting stuff.

I do drive my Accord pretty violently at times, so I may as well get the more durable belt if it exists. Thanks for the replies, fellas!
