Hello all! I currently own a 2008 Honda Accord Ex-L V6 and I am thinking of trading it toward a 2010 Honda Civic Si. I love my Accord but am looking for something a little smaller with better gas mileage. I went to look at a 2010 Civic Si last night at a local dealer, the inside of the car was in great condition, and the mechanics seemed to be in good shape as well. However, there was some white (what looked like overspray) paint on the the hood of the car, a little ding on the one quarter pannel, and anothe little dent on the black window molding on the driver side window. They're asking 19,000 for the car and would offer me 15,000 for my car (which seems a little low). I checked the CarFax on the car and everything came back clean, but it looks like they have been sitting on the car since February, not sure if thats a bad sign, but it might be due to the face that it is the burnt orange color and thats not for everyone. I would also need to buy new tires because it currently has winter tires on it. Anyone have any opinions? Does anyone thing I should do this or is it a bad idea? Maybe some ideas on how to get them to lower the price of the car/offer me more for mine?

Unless it was reported, CarFax won't have it on record as being in an accident. For all you know the previous owners brother owned a body shop and they repaired it under the table.

From what you are describing, that car has been in a wreck and you shpould walk away.

im guessin that would be almost an even trade, dependin on the milage of both cars. but u know car dealers they always hafta make money on their trade ins. i test drove a 2010 si at one time definanly more fun, but for me the accord coupe is prolly the biggest two door car avilable

When i crashed my civic ek, i shopped around for a used si.
The fact is i could not find one that was not beat up, dented, or looked used. I don't know if it's all kids or what but these cars are beat up and at the dealer. Then the dealer doesn't want to go down on the price because it's an si. When i did find a decent one, i asked for the car fax, and the manager came out saying oh this car is no longer for sale due to an accident. So the dealer was trying to sell this civic si until i asked for the car fax. Buyer beware.

I actually gave up looking for one, and decided on a new civic si but then the price of a new si was the same as a base model coupe.
I test drove the civic si, it was fun, pulled nice. But at the end of the day it's still a civic.
The lines on the accord coupe were to sexy to ignore.

Wrong decision.

Civic Si is rated at 21 city/29 highway and requires premium fuel.

Your Accord is rated at 19 city/29 highway and uses regular fuel.

You'll either be spending the same on fuel or more with the Civic Si since it requires premium. Then there's the money you'd lose on the trade.

Damn.. someone beat me to it!!:p Also... you have to check for insurance.. here in canada... the way it works.. insurance rates are based on a lot variables... age... location and also.. the number of reclamation per 100 clients... and of the civic Si tends to be more stolen or involved in more accidents.. the rate will definitely go up.. even if your older!!;) Civic SIs tends to also have weak transmissions.. so if it's beat up a bit... I would be weary of buying it...

Also... if your interested in the fun factor.. you should consider changing for a 6-6 accord..;)

I looked at the Si too but that premium fuel was a factor against it for me. That and since I am a big guy; the Civic felt a little cramped for doing 30,000 miles a year.....

How many miles are on your V6? I have a 2009 EX-L V6 Coupe with 21/22k miles that I'm looking to trade in for a 2013 Mazda CX-5 GT. The dealership said they would give 23k, which is higher than the KBB; so I have my doubts.

I would say either keep your accord or buy a newer coupe, gas milage is better compared to Civic si and the accord coupe looks WAY (x1000) better.

I personally think the Si looks pretty trashy, but that's just my opinion. And i still don't see any mojor reason someone would buy the Si over the accord coupe. The si even needs premium fuel too.

19,000 ? a new model is only 3,000 more (base) ?

Talk them down.

I parked my Gen7 6-6 alongside a current Si coupe for comparison.

Dude who turned out to be the Service Manager said "why would you trade your comfortable, fuel efficient - on 87 - Accord for a Civic?"

Actually, I agree with him. And - judging by the tone of several prior posts - I'm not alone.

I'd stay away from a used Si, unless you know the prior owner. Most Si owners (young guys) beat the heck out of them. The tranny in the Si is great.....if you know how to drive a MT well....if you don't, it's pretty easy to mis-shift or grind. I had a '06 Si and I enjoyed it, but rowing the gears in traffic got old after 4+ years as a DD. I'd say that over half of the Si's that I ran into on the road wanted to go at it. IMO, the new Si coupe looks like ass compared to the 8th gen Si.
