The factory USB port/charger that had previously been working fine stopped working during use Sunday on a road trip.

It will not charge my iPhone 5 or my wife's iPhone 5. I have tried multiple cables.

The USB port also won't pass the Spotify stream through to the radio as well.

I realize that the USB source has to be selected in order to use Spotify, how ever the iPhone's don't even recognize that they are connected to a USB charging port.

I called my dealer and he said he had not seen any port failures, and he even
made a call to support. He did say the port is powered from the radio and there is not a separate fuse.

Has anyone else experienced a dead USB charging port?
(I did a forum search and did not find anyone with a similar issue)

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't matter if the service department has heard of any USB port issues it's covered under the warranty. Take the car in and have them fix it.

I fully intend to take it in for service, however the dealer is an hours drive each way, and if a part is required it will most likely be an overnight repair due to them having to order the part.

I was hoping for someone with a similar problem to relate their experience. And just maybe beyond all hope they could tell me what was wrong with theirs. Perhaps even user error, and could save me the trip in for service.

Thanks.

Problem solved.

The problem was caused by a iPhone cable with an internal short.

The problem with the cable apparently started out as an intermittent short that progressed to a constant dead short.

I think that once the car's built in USB experienced the shorted cable, it takes a while to reset. This time to reset made the known good cables point to a dead port.

Eventually the bad cable started to affect other chargers.

I'm glad this didn't end in a trip to the dealer for repair.

Thanks for the help.

Hmm, brand name APPLE cable or cheap aftermarket cable. I use the cheapies and so far so good.

Apple OEM Cable

The defective cable was OEM without any visible signs of damage.
Lately I have been buying the Amazon Basics iPhone 5 cables. They are not as sleek and flexible, however they seem to built better in the sense of heavy duty.

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem, and I think that was the cause too. However, I don't know how to fix mine. Can you please post your resolution on how to get the usb port to work again? Or how to reset it? Thank you.

Replaced Cable

Hi,

The problem was resolved by replacing the defective cable. My Honda service manager told me he researched my initial problem and determined that that there is no separate fuse for the USB port. The power is supplied from the Radio head unit.

Basically from my experience if a cable causes an overload shutdown on the USB port it will take considerable time to reset possibly due to the thermal nature of the overload.

I would buy a new cable and at a minimum let the car sit off overnight to try the new cable the next day.

I have had no other issues with the USB port since I replaced the defective cable.

Please reply back to let me know if this helped you.

Regards
Greg

I was able to solve this exact problem by unplugging the USB toaster. Apparently the toaster was drawing too much current.

Same Issue

Same issue here. When driving into work this morning in my 2013 Honda Accord, I tried using the usb to charge my phone and listen to music and it did not recognize my iPhone 5S. It told me the device was not supported but plays the music through bluetooth. I switched it to my work iPhone 4S to see if it was my cord or phone and I got the same response - did not recognize the usb device. Worked fine last night and since I had the car - up until this morning. Does it have anything to do with the new iOS 8.02 update?

I have had the same issue for months now. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. It always works with the flash drive, but the iPhone USB cable is off and on.

-- Tried 5 different cables; when it is not working, the cable makes no difference. When it is working, every cable works.

-- Tried playing flash drive so the port was active (so to speak), then switching to iPhone. Sometimes this works, as if "re-setting" the port and allowing it to recognize the iPhone again. Most times this does not work.

-- Tried flipping phone end of cable, and plugging/unplugging both ends, wiggling both ends to see if loose connection...none of this worked.

-- It has worked with ios 6, 7 and 8 - and it has stopped working with all 3. I don't think it is ios - I think it is Honda.

Next oil change is in a week or 2 - add it to the list for warranty issues, along with the rear deck rattle...:thumbsdow
