Currently I drive a 2013 ex but am looking to upgrade to the 2016. Ever since I bought my '13 I've been kicking myself for not getting the exl. However, is it just me or does it seem with the '16 the upgrade is not as much as a value? It seems like the only big difference is leather for a $2300 jump in price. Anyone else notice this or is there something I'm missing?

I don't believe you can't read the Honda website like the rest of us can.

It's just surprising as in 13-15 it came with various other features such that the sensing now has at an additional cost or the LEDs which are now standard. It just seems like they are making the exl less marketable.

Usually the biggest option from ex to EXL in any honda model is the leather. If you have young kids or pets, leather is very worth it. I learned this the hard way... lol.

If I were you I'd just add leather to my car and call it good and save a lot of $$$

I have a 14 EX-L, and don't have sensing.

The biggest differences from 14 remain: the higher wattage radio, the leather seats, the heated seats, the power passenger seats and the seat memory.

For us, it was the leather seats, which we found easier to get in and out of, and the seat memory, since we each have very different seating positions. I can barely get in the car when the seat is set for my wife, but with the EX-L, when I unlock the door, the seat moves to my position. If you are the only driver, it doesn't matter a bit, but, if you and someone else both drive the care, it makes a huge difference.

I would just wait a couple short year's for the 10th gen to come out. You already have a nice vehicle and unless it's already paid off you'll have a lot more equity in yours or even paid off by then. The 2016's are nice but nothing that's appealing enough to give up yours with it being fairly new. You might end up kicking yourself again for not just waiting a couple more year's. Personally I'd just hang in there but that's just me.

I believe EX doesn't have XM radio. No sharkfin antenna.

I'm the only driver of my EX-L, but I find the two memory driver seat extremely useful as well. I have one setting for my driving position. When I want to get out, I switch to the other, which moves the seat backwards, lowers the back slightly, and lowers the height a bit. Makes it much easier to get in and out of the car.

your depreciation is in your 13 already be hesitant to upgrade unless you need brakes, and tires and can land an exl for around 26
if you pay in the 28 range you will have 6 k of depreciation again wait till new model come out

I still owe 10k on mine with 3 years left. If I do decide to go forward with it I'm only going to finance it for 3 take a bigger payment and bring 3k to the table to eat up some of the difference. It all depends on what they will give me for the trade, it only has 19k on it. I'm actually going in anyway to help a friend purchase a leftover '15. Pretty much if I don't get a great trade in I will just wait.

Finally, saw a 16 EX on the road in traffic today. I'd wait for the next gen, doesn't look like it's worth taking a financial hit to do something drastic right now to get a 2016. Car is a little too ostentatious and less classy IMO. Those wheels nothing great. Still think that the 13-15 Sport is one of the best looking sedans of all time.

Great idea! I'm an only driver also, but never thought of setting Driver2 for easy exiting.

A good chunk if that $3k will be eaten by sales taxes title and fees.

We had a thread about the EX vs EX-L just a few weeks ago. I still feel that the EX gained value for 2016, while the EX-L lost some.

For 2016, the EX gained LED DRL, homelink, XM radio, remote start, Car Play/Android Auto, and LED tail lights. The EX-L already had XM, homelink, and LED tail lights, but also gained remote start, Car Play/Android Auto, and LED DRL. However, the EX-L lost Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning which are now part of a $2000 Sensing + Nav package. Despite the fact the EX gained features relative to the EX-L and the EX-L lost FCW/LDW, the price difference between the two only dropped by $300. This, at least IMO, makes the EX a better overall value than the EX-L. To be honest, $2290 seems like kind of a rip-off for leather, heated front seats, auto-dimming mirror, premium (HA!) audio, 4-way power passenger seat, and 2-position memory for the driver's seat. It should be less than $2000 for all of that, I think.

On Friday I had my 2015 EX in for its first oil change. I saw the salesman that sold it to me and he threw me the keys to a 2016 EX-L and said bring it back tomorrow morning. Apple CarPlay was great, wish I had it in my car. The LED DRLs, fog and tail lights were cool. The HD radio was nice too. I don't care much for the front end, but I could get used to it. What I don't think I could get used to are the rims. Just awful and I'm not a big fan of my current rims, either. Bottom line is it's a nice car, but not worth losing money in a trade over.

Exactly what I was thinking. Since I will already be at the dealership it doesn't hurt to take a look. The new EX has a lot of the features such as the dual screen and led tail lights not to mention the LED DRL that only came on the V6 that I missed out on buying the '13 EX. It will all depend on how far they're willing to play ball. I only paid 24k OTD on my current car so if I can get out without taking too much of a beating I will consider it. This car is definitely catering to the younger crowd, although I would have to opt for the sport grill.

We keep the LDW turned off, and the FCW has a lot of false positives, so it isn't really all that helpful, so having it is not that much of a positive, and not having it is no loss. For 300 bucks, I would have told 'em to keep it. In an Accord, with Apple Play, I don't think I would ever go for Nav.

Drove through a local dealer lot. They had a mix of '15 and '16 on the lot. And after looking at the '16 in person, I agree with earlier posts that the wheels on the EX/EX-L are bad enough to make me not want to buy it. They also had a '16 Sport and that looked AMAZING. I'm just glad that the Sport doesn't have the upgraded audio of the EX-L. Because then I might actually consider dumping my '15 for a '16 Sport. No way I'd opt for the EX-L with those wheels.

For about 2k you can switch the wheels out. Not the most economical option but one none the less. 19" 5-Spoke Slotted Wheels (each) - 42700-T2A-KIT - College Hills Honda

Good point. But that's taking a bad value proposition and making it much worse. I'm very happy with my '15 Sport. Keeping it. (Only nagging complaint is lack of CarPlay).

At the same time, I'm glad that Honda really upped their game with the '16's. Some great cars there. They've done a nice job of increasing the value of the brand which we all benefit from.

Terrible value haha. I'm thinking about going balls to the wall on the Touring as it has the $300 decklid and the $2000 wheels. Oh well... time to look through the finances again.
