I've done a lot of searching and reading regarding ANC but can not find the answer to my questions.

Before disassembling the dash to disconnect the ANC connector, I found a way to enter diagnostic mode in order to turn off ANC.

If I press 1/6/Power, the stereo enters diagnostic mode. I can then press 1 for ANC test/on/off.

I'm not really sure what I'm doing. When I first press 1, I get a loud hum from the speakers. If I press it again it seems to turn it off.

What do I do after this? Is there a way to exit diagnostic mode while leaving ANC off so I can listen to the radio while driving? I can't figure out how to go back to the normal stereo controls so I can listen to the radio or CD. I realize ANC will reset with new ignition start, but I'm just trying to test it while driving.

I want to test with ANC off to see if I notice any difference in interior noise or stereo quality before taking the center console apart to disconnect the ANC module.

At this time, I have no plans to install an aftermarket stereo system.

Thanks.

I think diagnostic mode ANC is reset with the key on/off.

I'm not 100% sure on the refresh (16-17) models, but I think what you wrote says it all: "...the stereo enters diagnostic mode...". It's just that, a diagnostic mode. I don't think it Honda gives an option to turn the ANC on or off.

Disable the ANC. It takes all of 10 minutes to do it properly (remove the center console and unplug the harness from the ANC module). It's also reversible, so if you find that you like the ANC turned on, you simply plug it back in.
