Hey everyone, I was showing my Sport 2.0T to my friend, however he isn't sure if he wants a more luxury oriented sports car or a flat out sports car (Subaru WRX).

Did anyone here consider these two cars?

WRX is obviously the better handler of these two, however do you guys think with some mods with the Accord will make it handle close or somewhat like a WRX?

If the interior, and fuel economy weren't so terrible, I would have too got a WRX.

Consider what 2 cars? What "luxury oriented sports car" is your friend considering along with the Subaru WRX?

Wait. You don't mean the 2018 Accord 2.0T Sport, you do?

An Accord a "luxury oriented sports car"?

Compared to Subaru's interior, it is luxury :)

Have him look at a 2-3 year old A4.

Everything else has been said (especially that these cars are NOT comparable) but let me add a log to the fire:

The WRX's fuel economy is TERRIBLE and you have to use premium.

You posted this while the mods were deleting the street racing post. The post you quoted is now gone.
Yep, saw that coming.

I was just saying the post sounded a bit too silly to be legit.

Flat 4 in a nutshell.

Look at Toyobaru's fuel economy. Same problem.

It was my "street race" post, and yes it was too silly to be legit. That "racing" story was 100% made up for some comedy value based on the title of thread. The sarcastic tone was clearly missed, even though I posted a video right after of the surfer dude interview to reference where I got the idea on how to describe this fictional story. "Nooooooo Monicaaa" was a reference from the Fast and Furious movie. "Revving out each gear of my 10 gears"...not even possible in the 10AT! I figured I included enough false flags to question any authenticity behind it. I think most of those that read it understood it was fake and meant to be funny..but alas I received a PM from a moderator slapping my hand with a warning. Good stuff:devil

I had a 2015 WRX. I did test drive a 2018 which had some minor updates. I ended up buying the 2018 Accord 2.0 MT. My 2015 WRX was a great car. Fast, Fast Fast. But, it had a very noisy cabin especially on the highway. And, my commute is alot of highway each day. The ride was stiff too which when traveling with other people made for some complaints. It's a sports car and drove like one. The 2018 was a refresh for the WRX. The clutch was way lighter (similar to Accord) and shifts were smoother. Subaru claimed they put more sound deadening into the car, but, it was still loud on highway. The infotainment aspect was certainly lacking too. No android auto/Apple carplay. The suspension was still stiff, but, better than the 2015 I had. For me it came down to comfort. Since my commute is almost 1 hr. each way, there just wasn't enough difference in the mild refresh of the new model. Cabin/Engine were too noisy. I test drove the 2.0 AT accord. It is definitely more of a family car with great pickup. Cabin to me is quiet and seating is very comfortable. The Infotainment and technology (All the Honda Sensing stuff) is 2nd to none. Way ahead of the WRX. So, the decision was pretty easy. That being said, I ordered the MT 2.0 model since there were none to test drive. It is definitely slower than the AT which is somewhat disappointing. However, I fully plan to buy a tune (already available) which adds lots of HP/TQ. I'm hoping what I'm left with is a car that is about as quick as my WRX. I'd by lying if I said I didn't miss the blistering acceleration. The WRX is kinda special in that any time you pass another one on the road, you always get thumbs up from the other driver. Lots of aftermarket performance parts too.

I'd say test drive them both. If you want a sports car that is a reasonable price, there is nothing wrong with WRX. They hold their value too! Quiet/comfort, the Accord wins that one. I heard Subaru is doing a more major overhaul of the WRX in 2020. Might be worth another look then.

PS..as for as Fuel Economy. The Accord taking regular gas is saving me good $$. I am getting about 28 MPG. My WRX on Premium was netting me 26 which was still good. I disagree with some statements that the WRX is a gas guzzler. That was not the case at all for me.

I drove a WRX. Not for me. Noisy on the highway, very peaky engine, clumsy shifter, very cheap interior, terrible fuel economy on premium. I do not understand the appeal of the car vs. its competition to be honest, it's very expensive for what it is. A Civic Si seems like a luxury car in comparison in comparison.

If he needs AWD, tell him to drive a used Audi or a TL SH-AWD (6MT if you can find it).

If he wants good handling, I would get a GTI w/sport package (LSD) in a heartbeat over a WRX.

2 completely different vehicles .. cannot be compared. Just because the Accord has close to same HP as WRX doesn’t mean it should be grouped in the same class as it

Why do people always say you can't compare two cars? You certainly can. You can compare a car and a Mack truck if you want. You just compared the Accord and WRX stating they have the same HP and are different classes. Years ago I was looking at Accords, BMW 540i, Porsche Boxster, R32s and several other cars. To make a decision you have to compare them.

Why can't someone look at and compare a WRX and Accord, especially if they are considering buying one of them?

OP, I will say we had a Subaru once, and never again. Worst car ever made. We had a Chevy Astro AWD van many years ago. According to Consumer Reports and many magazines, it was supposed to be horrible. It was the best. Never a problem. Never had to replace head gaskets or catalytic converters or any of the other stuff Subaru owners think is normal. Never had a check engine light or anything. Subaru owners think having a check engine light on is telling you the car is running properly. Too much praise for the Subaru. The Astro never left us stranded. The Subaru twice.

Years in the snow I drove past a WRX in the ditch going up our hill. I felt bad and stopped. We tried to push it out, but it was stuck. I offered the guy a ride, but he said he lived just around the corner. As I got in my car and continued up the hill I couldn't help myself and suggested maybe he consider buying a Honda.

Mine was a 2011 WRX hatchback. I had a very similar experience with the WRX Rattles cheap plastic interior. Great motor and transmission. 23-24 MPG premium on good days. It was AWD and a great car for what it was. It did have great resale value also. FUN FUN car. The Accord has a ton more room, more comfort, Regular fuel better MPG.

I showed my friend these responses. He was wondering as this generation ages, would it be possible to improve the handling of the accord (closer to a wrx)? (for example, aftermarket sway bars, or rear motor mount). In other words, will it be as mod friend as our smaller cousin, the civic X?

I know people in here are scoffing at the idea of cross-shopping the two, but we did. We'd normally be looking at the more comparable Subaru Legacy, but they dropped the manual several years back. As my wife insisted on a 3-pedal, we test drove a WRX. I liked it a lot more at the beginning. Great punch, really responsive handling. But the interior was really, really barebones, the interior room was about the same as a Civic, and the suspension back-breakingly stiff.

You just have to realize the trade-offs there and make your choice. The WRX is certainly sportier and punchier, but you lose interior room, comfort and a lot of the electronic aids. It just depends on your priorities.

No, there are no mods that you can make to an Accord that will make it handle similar to a WRX. I've seen a bone stock STI literally shred an IS-F at the track. Give me the IS-F, though, wouldn't want that noisy STI.
