Hi everyone. I wanted to get some advice on how you would proceed with this. I brought home my new Accord Sport (6MT!) over the weekend and noticed that there was an alignment issue with the rear door on the driver side (see pic). I tried adjusting the circular rubber piece but regardless of what I did, the door continues to stick out a little bit. Passenger side looks more flush, which is what bothers me.

Do you have any suggestions on what to do? Thanks in advance!

Google yields several results for "how to adjust car door to close tighter" but they are mostly shaky and out of focus videos like those of big foot and aliens but feel free to take a peek, might give you some ideas.

Have your dealer fix it.

Thanks so much for the replies. Has anyone else experienced doors not aligning? It doesn't seem like the issue is uncommon among the 10th gen Accord. If the other side looked similar, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I will probably take it to the dealer for them to check it out. I just wanted to see if it was a simple thing that could be fixed by myself because #1 the dealers location is a bit of a hike from my place and #2 I am having a trust issue with the dealer right now as they initially charged for splash guards that weren't even installed (it was refunded after jumping through a bunch of hoops and proving that I didn't have them on my car)...

Thanks again

Either have your dealer investigate (which could result in other issues from the young tech that will no doubt be assigned to fix the issue) or live with it. The driver's door on my 2019 sticks out a little. I noticed it during my test drive. If that's the worst quality issue I experience, I will be a very happy customer. If I had bought a $50,000 Acura, I would be upset. The fact that I bought a mass produced mainstream sedan for an affordable price- it doesn't bother me much.

Enjoy your new ride.

A quick search of the forum reveals a big yes.

You got thrown off a horse. You need to get back on the horse right away. Go back and dominate those clowns. Knock the service writer down to the ground and urinate on him. Follow the manager into the head and beat him with a loaded Glock. Grab the salesman by his necktie and drag him around the car saying, "No scratches now, better not be any 30 minutes from now when my car is fixed." When you get to the door sticking out, knee him in the groin for selling you a car that had not been checked by staff.

That was your Fight Club homework, wasn’t it?

New 2020 Accord Touring 2.0 here. I just took delivery three weeks ago. Here's a photo of my driver's door alignment. It's not that bad, but I haven't seen this kind of misalignment in any car I have bought in years.

Since I am old, it kind of reminds me of buying a 1950's Chevy, when part of the ritual was always returning to the dealer a few days after delivery with a huge list of discrepancies. Unusual these days. And I think unusual for Honda which does a generally good job of providing quality, and quality appearance, with good value for the money.

Probably minor enough to just accept as is. But still surprising to me View attachment 523191

Have you tried talking to the dealer about your misalignment issue? Like others commented, I am afraid that they'll try to do something and then create a bigger problem.

If your issue is just the front protruding a bit, repositioning the rubber stopper position may help with the issue

I looked at my car again and it does indeed have the issue with the front door sticking out a little more than the rear (1st photo). I attached some more photos from the rear (2nd and 3rd photo) from a different angles. I think the front and back misalignment is caused by the rear door alone (since it is sunk in towards the front and sticking out in the back). This probably makes the front door appear like it is sticking out. 4th photo is from the other side. Alignment is not perfect but it isn't bad.

Another minor issue it had was the shift nob being loose and the boot being off the knob. The dealer tightened it and put the boot back on. I've been turning the knob to align it once in a while.

With Honda announcing that they were discontinuing 6MTs forever, I had to act fast and was able to get the last one available around my region. Other than the cosmetic issues, so far the car has been fantastic.

That rear drivers side view (unname (1) pic) would have me at the dealership waiting on them to come in. No way that’s not being corrected.

Dealer service manager: "I had the tech inspect your car and they are telling me that the door latches fine, and the alignment is within assembly tolerance spec. Here is your key, that will be $XX for the diagnosis fee. Sign here, thank you."

There is no charge for issues related to warranty.

If the dealer takes a look at it, and can find an issue that falls out of spec, they fix it and charge Honda for it. (Honda, like any other manufacturer already included the projected cost of warranty service in the cost of everything they sell, so we all shared this up front when making the purchase, but that's a story for another time.)

If they take a look at it, and if it turns out to be within spec, then as far as the dealer is concerned there is nothing that needs correcting, the customer is on the hook for the diagnosis fee. They might say that the door closes fine, alignment is within tolerance margin, the latch is secure, door functions within as designed. AKA "this is normal operation". They can also say that the door is out of alignment by an unacceptable margin, and fix it at Honda's expense. I do not know the assembly tolerance so I cannot predict the outcome.

Thanks everyone. I decided that I’ll take it to the dealer and at lease hear what they have to say. After noticing it, its really bothering me now. I’ll report back afterwards!
Congrats on the purchase and nice choice on the MT! Have been really happy with the MT over the first 5+ months of ownership. There are a couple of threads pertaining to the loose shift knob. I've been contemplating upgrading my hardware as some others have.

Sorry to hear about your door issue. I have a '16 Odyssey with the same issue. The right sliding door sticks out slightly more than the left side. I opted to not do anything about it and haven't given it a second thought since.

Good luck at the dealer and interested to see what the results are.

Thanks for the advice on the MT shift knob. I actually found out today that the shifter boot was not tucked in all the way towards the bottom right and it was coming off. I was able to tuck it in by gently pushing the edge through but I'm sure it'll come out again at some point. Have you had issues with the boot coming off the assembly as well?

Update for everyone. I went over to one of the local dealer yesterday (one closest to home, not the one I bought the car from) and had the service person take a look. He told me that this has been an issue with late model Hondas and he sees them frequently. He said in general they wont do anything about it but commented that mine was one of the worst he's seen. He spoke to a manger and they decided to refer me to a bodyshop nearby. I left my car there overnight and it was all fixed by this morning (see photo of before and after - sorry about the images not lining up perfectly). The bodyshop billed the dealership directly so I didn't have to worry about any charges. The bodyshop person told me that all they had to do was readjust some bolts and the door panel so that it would line up properly with the body of the car. He said took about 2 hours and the bill they sent Honda was just a little under 200 dollars.

Hope this helps anyone else with similar issues

My shift boot has been OK, just experienced what you and others have described regarding the loose knob. It's a minor annoyance .

Glad you got the door aligned without any runaround from the dealer or body shop!
