I realize I am asking this question in an accord forum so clearly there will be a bias towards accords.

Nonetheless I am seeking opinion on how these two vehicles ( 2021 Honda Accord Touring vs 2021 Kia K5 GT) rank against each other. They both offer wireless carplay (a huge plus for me), they both have punchy 4 cylinder turbo engines (The K5 maybe punchier since it has 290hp as compared to the accord's 253 hp but I did not factor in weight). The K5 The GT1 package adds a 10.25 inch screen which is nice. There is also apparently an all wheel drive option on the K5, though I could not find it on the kia website.

I test drove the Accord touring and really like the pickup and most everything else about it. The wheel squealing when I punched it from a full stop is a little annoying but that is the consequence of front wheel drive. I have not yet test drove the K5.

Any opinions?

You really need to test drive the K5 variant that you really want to consider. The interior quality is much better in the Accord....and that tacky gear shifter in the K5 looks antiquated.

AWD is an option for the smaller motor, not the bigger one. We just had this discussion on the hybrid sub section. Toyota? maybe. Kia/Hyundai? nope.
Personally, I don't like the Kia/Hyundai engines. Their 2.0T left a very bad taste in my mouth and I'm not willing to even try their different engine offerings.

Personally, I think the K5 looks hideous, and I concur that that shift knob looks seriously antiquated (and out of place considering how high tech everything else in the interior is).

I do like the steering wheel (wish Honda had done that for the sports), and I'm pretty sure the sound system in the Kia will be better (not sure what sounds system the touring comes with, but the sound system in the sport sucks). Also, I thought the Accords were surprisingly spacious (the sleek design of the 10th gen gave me the impression that the interior would be tight). That being said - I've been a passenger in Sonatas and Optimas, and if the K5 has the same dimensions - you'll probably have a little more space there (plus, bigger trunk space and possibly a bigger gas tank).

In regards to the engine - I have heard of issues with Hyundai/Kia turbos, do I'm curious how this 2.5 in the GT holds up?

There's my objective synopsis for you. Off course, the final decision is yours. Like seldomseen said - you need to go test drive the K5. Do your due diligence and research, and make an educated decision based on which factors/specs are important to you. Good luck on whichever you decide on.

Kind of curious what the Kia forum guys told you (becauseI'm assuming you created an account and asked them too)?

Share with us a link to the thread you made on the Kia forum. Since it will not make sense to create such a thread on the Accord forum and then not create one on the Kia forum.

So, just like @2.0 said above, I assume you created 2 threads. One on the Accord forum and one on the Kia forum. Asking the same thing. So, let us see the link to the Kia forum. Let us read what they say against the Accord.

Stick with the Accord. We recently had a discussion about hybrids- Accord vs Camry vs Sonata, and Hyundai and Kia are sister companies. The Sonata was quickly eliminated from the running. While they have improved over the years, Hyundai/Kia STILL can't compete with Honda or Toyota mechanically. Plus, their engines always fail, or catch on fire. I'd sooner walk than buy a Hyundai/Kia, personally.

Edit: additionally, I feel like asking for new car advice on a car dedicated forum is rather futile. Even if you do ask the Kia forum as well as the Accord forum, you're going to get biased 100% Accord votes from one, and 100% Kia votes from the other. I would suggest looking at critic reviews- I like Car and Driver, as they're not as easily bought as MotorTrend and feel more fair in my opinion. Pair those critic reviews with test drives of each to decide which is right for you.

Long term reliability and resale value are in Accord's favor. Also, the 2.0T is severely underrated which Honda loves doing for some reason. There's probably 250-255 hp at the wheels so closer to 280 hp at the flywheel.

Kia will get it right sooner or later, I like their exterior styling but resale is a concern. Seems like that new 2.5 is going into a lot of their offerings. Either way, it will be another contender to chip away at Camry and Accord sales and I think Honda is making a mistake buy not offering an AWD sedan without having to go to an Acura.

Also, those lane watch cameras for both left and right IMO are the coolest.

I'm an open minded guy, but not when it comes to Kia/Hyundai. When Hyundai first came out, I saw them on the side of lots of roads. "Yeah but they're better now!!" Sorry, first impressions are lasting. My daughter has had two Hyundai SUVs and neither was anything to brag about. I've had 3 Accords and another as a company car. If you're heavily impressed by electronic gadgets, go for it. If reliability and build quality matter, buy an Accord. You rarely if ever see them on roadsides.

Personally, I think Hyundai/Kia makes some awfully good vehicles these days.

Still... Honda's quality is among the best in the entire automaking industry.

Maybe I need to watch that video about the K5, but the steering wheel in my Sport 2.0T is the best in any car I've owned. The thickness is just right. The steering wheel controls are intuitive and very well designed, ergonomically speaking. I drive a stick, so no paddle shifters, mind.

The steering wheel in my HAH is far and away the best I have had...it feels really good to keep the hands at 10 & 2!

Driver's ed (5 years ago for me) says the new standard is 8 and 4, the reason being that if airbags deploy, 8 and 4 would help you avoid injury in the wrists, arms, and hands. They found that holding the wheel at 10 and 2 can contribute to injury during airbag deployment.
I have a bad habit of holding my wheel at 4 only, with one hand. I've gotten lazy lately.
They also said headlights should be on 24/7 even during daylight now, lol.
