I have a 2024 Accord Hybrid Touring. The car has about 6K miles on it, since September 2024.

The leather covering on the steering wheel is splitting and looks as though the was scratched by jewelry. The dealer is denying coverage, and the Honda Customer Service is also denying the claim based on the dealer's report and pictures.

The problem is that I don't wear jewelry, no one else has ever driven the car, and the severity and volume of the splits are growing. The appear almost all over the wheel and in areas where you wouldn't normally hold the wheel.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of problem? Can anyone offer guidance on how to proceed?

Honda C/S suggested that I visit another dealer to get another opinion. I have to believe that a second dealer would have access to my records and would not be "independent". I was also told that is the second dealer denied the repair, Honda would close the claim. Honda C/S did try to ask me about a compromise with them offering some vague amount of assistance. I turned this down.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

FWIW, I agree with Honda: That does NOT look like a defect to me. That looks like wear and tear.

It need not be rings... It could be a wristwatch, or somebody dragging a purse across the wheel when ingressing/egressing.

If it really bugs you, then buy a new wheel and replace it.

There is a small rough spot on the top of my steering wheel that i noticed the other day. It is no where near as severe as what you are experiencing. I wear a wedding ring and that's it, so I don't believe it is from dragging anything across the wheel. I park with the wheels straight 99.9% of the time, so I don't think it is from climbing in and out and dragging my leg across the wheel, either.

What kind of dog do you have ?

Finger nails? Ring? Something is obviously repetitively scratching the wheel at almost the same angle every time. In addition, it looks like it's scratched around the very outside of the wheel all the way around (at least the picture area). I'd say there is no way a dealer did this as it looks very repetitive over time.

"splits" should be continuous, not dotted like that. There is a layer of paint on top of "leather". The scratches in the picture indeed are consistent with paint being damaged by a sharp object.

Original Honda OEM wrap costs like $50~$100, cheaper for the aftermarket, could be stitched on by yourself, basically a glove. There is 0 chance for Honda to warranty this.

BTW, do you use hand sanitizer often? or ever wiped, cleaned it with chemicals? Alcohol can damage leather paint, the middle of the screen looks discolored.

Vague amount of assistance is better than nothing. Also are you sure that your wedding ring is not causing the issue at all? The other option is, if you know how to stitch, Texas Custom Interior has a wheel wrap.

Did you bring it in to the dealer for service recently? Maybe they scratched it? When I had my high pressure fuel pump inspected under the recall, they scratched up my fuse box lid cover. They replaced it for free.

Definitely not a manufacturing defect and looks like your steering wheel is rubbing against the teeth on a metal zipper or something else along those lines. Just pay to have the steering wheel replaced and be careful not to get it scuffed up again. Believe it or not this happens quite often! (y) :giggle: :ROFLMAO::p
