My vehicle is the 2.0L 10AT Sport model.

I just came back from a huge road trip from Tennessee to New Hampshire and then back again. Per the trip computer I drove a total of 2632.7 Miles, avg. speed was 59mph, elapsed time of 44hr 53 min and my average MPG was 35.5! My "best" tank was a whopping 37.7 mpg, 422.2 miles with 57 miles of range remaining. All of these values were from the trip computer but I did log the actual fuel consumption for the TN-NH leg of the trip.

I began the trip with about half a tank, but topped it off with 8.113 gallons. I drove 388mi with an observed 33.1 mpg. I filled up again, 10.967 gallons, drove 422.2 miles with an observed 37.7 mpg! Third fill was 11.515 gallons, I drove 350.3 miles, I didnt get the computer mpg figure here. The total driven at this point was 1160.3 miles (the end of the first leg) with an observed 36.4 mpg for that first leg. I had 118 miles of range left on that 3rd tank. Not bad for a car rated 32 Highway!

The vast majority of the trip was of course highway with the cruise set between 70-75mph The middle portion of the trip, in and around NH was for the most part not highway. I did not log fuel consumption here as I probably should have but it was a vacation after all. The average for the whole trip of 35.5 reflects this accordingly.

Now for my impressions. I've had the car for a couple of months now, but never drove more than maybe 2 hours at a time. The vast majority of my driving up until now has been around town and for my daily commute which is mostly highway. This trip was the first serious drive for sure. I'm happy to report I had zero mechanical issues. My only stops on that first leg were for gas and another break of about an hour for lunch (im really bad about stops on trips, lol) I left at 3am Central time and arrived at 10:30pm Eastern. The car was in motion, other than maybe 1.5hrs of that time. Cruise worked great, though even my daily work commute had made me a believer. The 10AT is made for the highway, low revs and only downshifting as much as necessary to make it up more mountainous terrain. Also noticed it will downshift on very steep grades adding a bit of engine braking when cruise was enabled, neat. I'm also happy to report that I might have seen an improvement in shifting of the low gears after this long trip. Nothing to report on the engine, no issues, never a lack of power even on the steepest grades. Fuel economy was also fantastic as shown above. I did notice after hundreds of miles of steady state driving, vibration at idle was virtually non existant. Overall it may also be improved since I've returned from the trip. Climate control, was on nearly the entire time and blew strong cold AC the whole time. I did find that the seats were overall tolerable, but really became uncomfotable to me at the 8hr mark. Pretty average id say. One annoyance i did notice (the more north I got) was the lane departure warning seemed to get more and more sensitive, I suppose driver fatigue may have been a factor but the roads are not as wide and straight as they are around my home. I also found that at times it seemed like I had to put more effort into actually correcting the lane departure due to the shaking wheel, but again perhaps driver fatigue? Brakes were consistent the entire time even with the many hours of adaptive cruise operation.

Well thats really about it, not much more to say. The car performed well, was as comfortable as could be expected after a given amount of hours, and ran and drove as expected. I'm happy to report no new squeaks or rattles were uncovered. I'll probably not take quite as long of a trip as this again, but its good to know that if I have to, the car is more than up to the challenge.

Pic1: Best tank, 37.7mpg!!
Pic2: End of first leg of trip, 1160.3 Miles
Pic3: Total Trip mpg, 35.5 MPG
Pic4: Total Trip Avg Speed, Distance, Time 59 MPH /2632.7 Mi /44h 53m

Thanks for the great review. I'm amazed by the average MPG -- did you keep it under a certain speed to achieve this?
Amazingly no, The cruise was on the majority of the time and was set anywhere between 70-80 depending on the posted speed limit. I did punch it here or there to get around a line of trucks, but overall it just sat on cruise.

Reminds me of the trip I did about a year and a half ago to Arkansas and back in my 2008 V6 coupe. Just a real nice driving car, and comfortable. If you can be comfortable in the seat for anywhere near 8 hours, that is great. For some reason I did not get as good gas mileage, only maybe 26 or 27 on the highway. No worries about lane keeping assist or whatever, it doesn't have that stuff.

Would you do it again? I don't think I will, TX, KS, OK, all have too much flats to get across. Boring for hundreds of miles.

Would I do it again, probably not, no real need. I just wanted to see how it would go being a new car. I was also at my destination for a week, I needed the car so renting something for an entire week could have been costly. Drives up to about 8 hrs or so though, sure. It was only really at that point where it started getting tiring, and frankly would be so in pretty much any vehicle.

What are the real numbers with pencil and paper? The optimismeter is sometimes a bit off.
I did a bad job logging my fills and only did so on the first leg of the trip, that said it required just over 2.5 tanks.

Tank 1 MPG was 35.37
Tank 2 MPG was 36.665

I neglected to record how much gas I added on tank 3.

So yes, looks like the gauge was off by +1.1MPG for tank 2 (the best one) but strangely, was off by -2.27MPG for the first tank. Perhaps the average was off on the first due to estimating in comparison to the tank before it which was mostly city driving.

A long all day drive is one thing. Back to back to back all day driver is another. Took me 3 1/2 days out, spent about 4 days in AR, and 4 days coming back home through Denver. If I have mountains or other good scenery it helps a lot, but it is still tiring. I concluded it is no more expensive and is better for me to just fly and rent a car, get a hotel package deal online.

Enjoy the car.

Did you get to drive the Kancamagus? If so, how did it do?

Sadly no, and I was RIGHT there too, same for MT Washington for that matter, but it was Bike Week and those areas were super crowded.
The Kanc is a nice drive, the Mt. W. is very hit or miss, since it is most offen shut in by the weather.

Your numbers are very encouraging op. My last car was a 2016 V6 Accord that made similar highway numbers on long cruising stretches. That car's best ever was 36 mpg at 70-75 mph. I'm hoping to get similar numbers on my 2018 Accord 2.0 exl.
