First make sure your car is in park. Sounds crazy, but I've seen it happen to people before.

Next, try turning the key and the wheel at the same time. If that doesn't work then I'm not sure. GL

This happened to me last month. Turns out after I dropped the igition switch on my wife' s car took it to a locksmith and it turn out the keys were worn. You probably need a new set of keys done.

um to be technical turn the wheel leftwards while you turn the key because of this wheel locking mechanism. but yeah like ackman said could be the keys..

how many miles u pushin on the 85 accord??? my aunt had a blue 84 LX. i remeber when she bought it

From my experience at the dealership, the most common reasons were the Interlock mechanism failed (you have ruled this out already), The keys are worn, or the key tumblers inside have worn. Get a new key as suggested already, and if that doesn't work, you may need to have the tumbler assembly either rebuilt or replaced.
