Any help would be appreciated. Since the stock radio is a 160w unit, does anyone knows if I get a low RMS aftermarket speakers it would sound better with stock radio unit? I know that a sound system would make it better, but I'm too old for that, I just want to keep stock wiring alone.

Thanks in advance!

I am planning to purchase Polk Audio DB651 Coaxial speakers. I heard good thinks about them.

anyone know if LX, Sport, and EX models have a cutout in the rear where the subwoofer is supposed to be?
My EX sedan does not. You can see a spot where there is a 6" square knock out where the hole would be from inside the trunk.

I wonder if the aftermarket speaker's magnet is too big to fit in the rear speaker slot? That one runs at 60w RMS.

Does anyone know the RMS for the stock speakers? 20-30RMS since it's 160watts radio unit. Any ideas?

I am really confused by these questions but I want to try to understand. Are you asking if the aftermarket polk magnets are too big to fit in the stock rear speaker location because they are rated to handle 60 watts RMS power? Your question presupposes that there is a direct correlation between magnet size and RMS power handling (ie higher power handling must necessarily mean larger magnet size). I just want to make sure I understand what you are asking.

sorry hehe. It's 2 separate thing. I saw the Polk magnets and was wonder if they fit into the stock rear speaker location. Most aftermarket speakers have bigger magnets, just wonder if it will fit into the stock location?

I also saw the Polk 60 watt RMS power and was wonder if the Honda radio unit can handle it w/o being distorted when you crank up the volume. I do not want to install any amp or run any wires to the trunk. Just want a bit of better sound quality =)

If you buy speakers from Crutchfield, they include brackets. I assume this is to house the larger magnets. I'm debating running a 4 channel amp and upgraded speakers. I will probably go the Crutchfield, because they include all the speaker harnesses to plug into the factory Honda ones. Plus their tech support is second to none. You can call them before you buy speakers and they can tell you exactly what you have to so to fit them in the doors and rear deck

Got ya, I just wanted to make sure I understood before I responded. Having not specifically. With only a 2 inch mounting depth I would be surprised if there were any issues mounting these in the rear deck. I know some have had problems with the torsion bars mounting very large subwoofers in the rear deck, but I just went out and measured (my rear speakers and deck are out right now), and the mounting depth is pretty much limitless, you shouldn't have any issues.

As to your second question, there are a couple things to think about when it comes to power handling. The polk speakers you linked have a documented efficiency of 92dB at 1Watt/1Meter. That is pretty high actually. I would therefore conclude that they would be a god candidate for powered by the stock head unit.

Taking a step back, however, many would argue that if you want to improve sound quality your best bet will be to upgrade the front speakers but I know that's not what you asked.

Thanks a lot! The reason I want to upgrade the rear speakers because I can do it myself unlike the front where I have to be careful and take out a lot of parts. I read somewhere from sites thru Google Search that the front speakers has more power than the rear so that's also why I want to upgrade the rear speakers. I could be wrong.

Do you mean the front speakers have a higher power handling than the rears or that they get more power from the head unit than the rear... I don't think either scenario is true. The front door speakers and rear deck speakers in the sport are identical (even have the same part number according to the Honda e-store).

I hear what you are saying about ease of installation, although I would argue the rear deck is a little more difficult to remove than the door card. The doors often need a spacer, but that isn't too big of a deal.
