I just got a 97 accord LX, when I drove to school today I notice the temp goes up halfway or 9/20 (.45) in the range, I checked the coolent and the water everything seems to be good, the fans turns on but go off quickly, also, I read some where else to put on the heat and that didnt bring it down. I spoke to someone and they told it could be the head is burn out on the engine , which is very very expensive, according to him.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

There's nothing wrong. When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the temp gauge will point somewhere in the middle. The fan will also come on intermittantly, particularly when idling... nothing to be concerned about.

I had the same issue years ago when I owned a 98 Dodge Stratus, and it was a thermostat issue ($5) which needed to be replaced. Once it was replaced, the car seemed fine. Get a second opinion. Even a third if necessary, or at least someone you know who is trustworthy. When i first presented the issue to a mechanic, he informed me that the radiator was bad, and tubings, the coolant and wanted to charge $350. And that he needed to work behind the engine, and that was a seperate fee! A bunch of bull!!! Always, shop around for service!
Good Luck!!!!!

As long as the needle isn't going above half there is no issue.

Mine usually rests at 1/4th though if I'm stop and go it does go onto 1/2.

If you turn on the A/C the fans should stay on the entire time the car is on. Make sure both fans are on.

Hmm...the temp needle in my 96 Accord NEVER went to half, even when I crawled in bumper to bumper traffic for 12 hours trying to evacuate from a hurricane. I'd change the thermostat. Has the water pump/t-belt been changed? How about just the coolant? Also, as suggested above, make sure that the fans are operating properly.

Since it doesn't go over half, I doubt if there's a engine cooling problem. I would think that a water pump or thermostat issue would cause the temp gauge to go higher than halfway... maybe even overheat.
