I just bought a brand new Honda Accord 2014 EXL and I am trying to figure out what the left sensor on the rear view mirror does?

I know the one on the right is for the auto dimming feature but whats up with the one on the left, it does not seem to do anything on mine. Please help answer this question.

Any one?

The sensor for checking light intensity from the rear.

The sensor in the front of the mirror tells the mirror there is darkness in front of the car (it's night) It checks the difference in intensity or presence of light from front to back. That said, it won't dim mirror if the sun shines into the rear window during the day. You can get it to dim temporarily by placing your hand in front of the mirror sensor in the font to "trick" the mirror into dimming for the low sun in the rear window.

If you normally travel with sun at your back as in going to work daily, put a post it note on the front sensor to fool it into thinking it's night.

Thanks for the reply, so if you look at the pic I attached you will see 2 of them facing the driver, what does the one on the left do? Honda dealer was unable to answer my question.

Lucky you have an auto-dimmer mirror. For some strange reason, Honda does not include that on the EX-L coupes even my 2014 V6 Coupe doesn't have one. Does anyone have any idea why not?? thanks

Coupe drivers drive so fast that bright lights in the rear window are out of range so fast the mirror won't dim fast enough anyway.:lmao:

As far as I've read Honda would need to have two mirrors in inventory since the coupe has a different rake on the windshield. The sedan mirror won't fit. Sounds kinda stupid since I have seen one advertised by companies that carry Gentex mirrors. I think College Hills has one for sale.

That's because the Sedan reigns supreme over the Coupe, that's all

Does this mean there us something wrong with my indicator light or 2014 exl models work differently?
Are you sure you didn't manually turn it off with the switch? That's if there is a switch on the 2014 model cause there is a switch on the 2013 model mirror.

ooops! you posted it still dims.

IDK then maybe the light is not working. We'll have to see from other 2014 owners.

The 14 doesn't have an on/off switch, the the 13 does.

I think I only have the one light on my car not the left one.

The left is the sensor and won't light up iirc.

My owner's manual says nothing about it. I went to the Honda dealer and they said all the 14 models they have, it acts the same, no light, if its not a sensor nor an indicator light what is it?

IIRC, the 2014s don't have a switch--they improved the operation such that it doesn't need one.

I've never had a complaint with the one in my Touring, and the same with the 2006 accessory mirror that I had in that car (in sig.); it was a Gentex, rebranded as a Honda accessory.

Well thats great but the function of the sensor looking thing on the left facing the driver remains a mystery. It does not lit or react to light for dimming so why is it there!

Reusing old mirror case design and leaving the unused openings as is. Same as some of the unused switch positions or options unused in multiple level cars.

Makes the diferent model mirrors cheaper to produce.:dunno:

Maybe it's a clandestine camera for Honda to use to discover how we like the car.:lmao:

It's probably a relict from the redesign. The 13 had an on/off switch and that was the indicator. Since the 14 is on all the time there is no need to have the indicator light on all the time. It was probably cheaper to keep the old design that remove it for 14.
