I don't see much difference between the two. The v6 is a second faster 0-60 , no leather on the Sport model, wheels look better on the Sport, decklid is standard on the Sport(extra on v6), no led front lights and it has a weaker radio.

I really like the v6 power, but the gas savings would be nice. All and all I love how the Sport model looks, but I wish I could get leather seats in it.

The dealer told me only 20% of customers opt for the v6. Which one should I go with and why? I plan on keeping it at least 8-10 years.

Both are great. If you are strictly for the exterior looks and don't feel like doing add ons go the Sport. If you want extra power, leather, and some other features like lane camera and the LED DRL then get the V6. Radio wise for a premium sound system it isn't that good so I wouldn't let the radio sway you for the v6.

the v6 is not 1 second faster, it is about 1.5-2 seconds faster and you really feel the difference in the powertrain

options wise, the states must be very different because the exl-v6 gives you pretty much a fully loaded car in canada. :S if the features are not much different between the two then go for the cheaper one

gas mileage wise, the v6 is not that bad. so far I have 170 KM on a little less than a quarter tank used. that is about 106 miles. that is from about 30 percent highway and 70 percent city driving.

I am in the same boat too, what it comes down is money. Is the V6 worth the 5-6k or so to you? After looking at both going for thr V6, just waiting either end of month or end of year.

Unless you do vast majority street driving with stop and go traffic, otherwise really not a huge difference.

Also depends how many people/stuff you are carrying. When I was driving a 4cyl Camery with 5 people plus luggage to airport, or going up the mountains/hills, those are times worth it to get a V6

I had the same question when I was shoppnig for the Accord. Go in and test drive it. I immediately knew what I wanted after test driving both. The power of the v6 is surprising.

I liked all the extra things the v6 has and especially the LED strip and push start. I don't regret getting the v6 whatsoever. MPG is pretty good depending on how and where you are driving.

Hope this helps!

I think the best way to sum it up is if you want the I4 which there is absolutely nothing wrong with it as it is a awesome car then do NOT drive the V6. This is the best motor Honda has put in the accord as for as torque/gearing since the accord has been out. Can it be better sure, but so can everything else. :)

Two completely different cars as you know... All depends on what you want and can live with long term.

Personally I wanted a V6, 6-speed, coupe but I got the Sport Sedan and couldn't be happier. I have a family, the Sport is my daily driver, and it fits much better into my budget. If those things were not concerns I would be driving the Coupe.

I can tell you that the Sport, even with the CVT (that some consider numb) drives and feels like a completely different car in "S" mode than it does in eco mode. It's not going to win many 1/4 mile drags but it's decently fun to drive while still being plenty comfortable and great on gas.

I bought the I4 for the extra MPG, but a pleasant surprise was learning the 4 does not need a timing belt change because it doesn't have a belt. The V-6 does. Also, I've not really looked under the hood of the 6 but I would think, in addition to the timing belt, all other maintenance would be a little more expensive because the 6 just has to be a little more crowded under the hood.

If by a second faster, you're referring to 0-60mph times, then don't give that a second thought. In real world driving, 0-60mph times don't mean as much as 1/4 mile trap times to get a sense how fast the car will likely be in passing and lane changes, etc. That is, unless all you plan on doing is drag racing from stoplights. It's been a while since I drove the I4, but I remember is was nicer than I expected. Then I drove the V6, and whoa, what a difference. The sound, feel, and of course acceleration just puts an instant smile on one's face.

While the V6 won't get quite the mileage of the I4, over the last 9k miles, I am averaging between 29-30 mpg with maybe a 60/40 split of city/hwy driving. This is better than I4 2012 Focus it replaced, lol. If you like leather, the Accord's has a very nice feel as well. That, with the added touch screen (really makes inputting nav info much easier), LED driving lights, seat heaters, sunroof, etc...really makes the EX-L feel much nicer than the cost.

Anyway, it seems the responses should probably be "Sport" from Sport owners, and "EX-L V6" from V6 owners, so in the end you should test drive both. I can 'almost' guarantee that you will know which one you want after you drive them both. Online research only goes so far...Good luck in your decision.

Interesting how you say there does not seem to be any difference between the two.

V6 is an EX-L trim. Which is essentially loaded with features. only thing above it is with nav or touring.
One tip if you are set on the sport do not test drive the v6.

If you want leather, then get EX-L either I4 or V6. If you can do without leather, then Sport is the best value IMHO even though some things are no available on it. V6 will give you better throttle response, but at the expense of much worse fuel economy in city driving (Get ready for 16-18mpg). If the car spends most of its time cruising on highway, the difference in mpg will not be huge. If you really want leather and nice wheels, perhaps EX-L + HPF wheels without V6 would be a good tradeoff? Note that having nice Honda wheels is a liability in shoddy neighborhoods. Check the long thread about Sport wheels being stolen in NYC.

We have almost 5000 miles on our v-6 ex-l . So far our general mixed mileage is 30mpg. We live in NC mountains above Ashville. Our drive time tend to be a eguial mix of intown and 4lane driving plus with no level roads to amount to much it all about up hill and down hill driving. Our last car was a 07 civic and mileage was 33mpg during the same area drive. So is a loss of 3mpg worth the extra cost and 3mpg loss . Hell yes.

WE had nav in the civic and desided I did not want it again and I do wish some features could have been deleted but stuck with them but over all we, are very pleased with the upgraded accord.

We tend to take our girls along to Ashville or one of there hubbies and child so the extra room is nice and the power keeps from working the engine and tranny hard. A simple one gear drop will pull any of the hills with the v-6.

What little real interstate mileage w get has given us a fuel milage of 36mpg and that does fall 4mpg short of the civic but such is life. Nice to have the quiet and smoother ride of the accord ex-l v-6.

Oh yea , We do not use the eco botton as any hills even at interstate speeds make it a worthless feature so far.

I was looking at the Sport vs. the EX-L (not V6), and honestly, the biggest problem was that most of the "features" did not add value to the package to me. Moonroof and Leather would have been nice, but those features are not worth almost $6k to me. FCW, LDW, LED, XM, Lane Watch, etc. are all nice, but I just couldn't bring myself to care enough about any of them to pay more.

And honestly, I HATE the central stack organization of the EX+ models. That secondary touch screen is frustrating and confusing.

The Sport had everything I wanted (except a moonroof) and all of the other stuff was just fluff.
