I'm looking to get a component set for the front doors soon. But I'm debating where to place the tweeters. The OEM location (the door/window sail panel) or a little lower on the door (closer to the floor)?

I've seen another thread where someone put aftermarket tweeters in the door/sail, just popping out the old ones and fitting in the new. Clean install.

But I know that tweeters closer to the floor, but aimed towards the ears will create a better soundstage. But will that look tacky, leaving the OEM tweeters where they are?

Optimal tweeter placement depends on what tweeter you're using and how your system is tuned.

I found for my setup the best place was on the dash in the corner at the A pillar/windshield and aimed at the dome light. Best thing to do is try out a few places with tape/velco/whatever until you find what you like best.

I originally had mine in the factory location just because it was easy and I figured Honda likes em there. I always thought they were kind of harsh there even with eq-ing. After doing some reading and my own experimenting I found the best location to the kick panel on axis. Like "The Watsui" said try them in different locations in your car using Velcro of double sided sticky tape.

EVERYONE says to use velcro or double sided tape. I swear I don't know what brands of tape) everyone else is using, that stuff NEVER EVER EVER sticks for me more than a few seconds before it comes off/ falls off/ completely changes the direction of the speaker.

Me being the n00b I was rushed into hacking my door panels to fit Diamond Audio tweeters (latter replaced with CDT components as pictured). :sorry:

I feel a little ashamed; hacking the door panel is a bit bold, because they are not cheap.

As previously said, temporary mount the tweeters in different locations to see what fits you. My silk CDTs do pretty decent off-axis from what I can tell.

I have mine attached to the sail panesl. It gives a different ambience, kind of like its a higher class car. Maybe because the silver matches the trim? :dunno:

As for quality, they can be kind of bright at times, I tuned down the treble and it sounds alright, maybe that's because the crossover is set to +3.

thats exactly where i have mine too. i got polks too.

Yeah I've been meaning too but that would require me to open the door panels again, and if I'm going to break more clips I'm going to wait until I can at least dynamat a a bit.

nodrog321 what do you have the crossover set to? and is it too bright? My S's are harsh at times. :/

yea i have the same problem with the S's. especially that i prefer female singers (LOL dont judge). but i have it set at -1 and i just have it hooked up to the oem HU no amps. so i just set on the HU +6 bass and i bumped the treble to +2. i still get some hissing sounds for the S's but i think its alright.

just read your post again, i forgot was the crossover like -3 to 3? i have it on the negative side.

Yeah that's what I can't remember either, my treble at +2 is shreeky, and that's putting it lightly. I can't remember if its 3 or 1 but either way still harsh, I may have to open it sooner than I thought. Can't tomorrow, I gotta work at 6am and go have fun later in the day. Life stinks when you work at a Starbucks in O'Hare, on the plus side, double pay :D

I tried sails too, my problem is that I would get a double image. If you look at the pics chaos put up, you will see the tweeter is facing down somewhat into the dash. Try putting a towel on the front dash just in front of where the tweet is aiming. It should cut down some of the harshness.
