instructions on CH are vague and in milimeters and the video clearly shows a tape measure...Anyone got any tips, tricks or references for a successful install of this thing?

I ordered the aeroskin a few days ago. IMO it looks 20x better than the hood deflector, is less than half the cost, and is much easier to install. If you haven't bought the deflector yet you should strongly consider the aeroskin.

^^^ This. Its great. Get the black one and it will blend right in.

I have the AeroSkin myself. All I can offer is that to convert Inches to MM Multiply the Inch measurement by 25.4

I already bought it. It was worth the extra $$ to me because it covers a lot further around the hood. I prefer the look as well, IMO the aftermarket one looks a bit bat wingy :). The instructions are in mm's and the inches conversion goes out 4 decicmals. The positioning tap isn't very good either, it holds to the car well, but the brackets slip around underneath. Was hoping someone had some good insight....I'll probably just go nuts with painters tape .

That looks SHARP! I may see if my dealer will do it for me :dunno:. In the US I believe the only way to get it is through CH.

OK,

So like yourself I bought this same deflector from CH. But I wish I had not. I was all pumped to install it just like you. Until I saw how many sticky pads they want you to install. Its ridiculous. I took pictures with it temporarily mounted and even posted those here on another thread.

Also the directions show the measurements in millimeters and I couldn't really nail the exact locations using a standard tape measure. The little temporary tape strips they give to line up the pads is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. The strips are not long enough vertically along the pads and the pads will not stay where you want them because they do not have a curve that rests naturally on the front lip of the hood. I'm sure maybe the dealer can do a good install because they do it all the time but I don't think I could do it right.

So I bailed on the OEM and went with the Carflector one that uses screws under the lip of the hood (you pull 4 of the plastic tabs that holds the front hood weather strip and replace with provided screws). Its pretty good. It only protects the middle of the hood though. I drove with it through the winter and kept my distance from other drivers and I did not get any rock chips. But I also don't drive on the highway.

I guess I just don't want such a "permanent" installation.

I listed the OEM on Craigslist about 2 months ago and nobody will buy the damn thing even at $100.00 !!! LOL

Installed mine at home...first time doing anything to the car myself. Took me about 2 hours and was a major PITA. Must've repositioned the brackets over a dozen times.

One trick I recommend is using the deflector itself as a guide instead of the ridiculous measurements honda provides. I also used plenty of painters tape as the ones included lost their adhesive within repositioning the brackets a few times. Honda should really include paper templates.

So it IS possible to be installed by a complete noob. It will just take time and patience.

i installed mine in 2 hours. Taking my time and using the deflector as a guide. I really like the quality of this deflector. The installation is difficult but it's very solid on the hood when everything is in place. My dealer sold me this oem deflector for only 100$ canadien.
