2009 Accord EX-L 2.4L Automatic Transmission

My car has 235,000 miles on it and I have taken meticulous car of it. I’ve always changed my fluids, belts, etc on time or even prior to the manufacturers recommendation.

I took the car in to the dealer have my transmission drained and filledwater pump replacedEver since they did this, my car has exhibited shifting problems. When driving up or down the smallest of inclines it seems like the car sticks in gear at a high RPM. Going up hill typically between 3rd and 4th gear it will rev up to 4000 or 5000 rpm before shifting. In some cars when that happens you can add a little gas and it will shift. That doesn’t work for me. It won’t shift until the incline is gone. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I have recently replaced the Spool Valve Screen, replaced the VTC screen and replaced the VTC solenoid.

When I hook up my BlueDriver it shows a bunch of codes for wheel speed sensors and impact sensors, but that’s it. I am curious if the wheel speed sensors have any impact on the transmission and timing or anything like that?
 
So it happened after a dealer service? Why not take it back there?

check the level of the trans fluid and look at the dipstick to see if there is foaming of the ATF.

If too much fluid, it will foam up and cause a delay in shifting gears.

Start there.

Just rethought this and if the problem seems to occur when on an incline the fluid may be low and the angle allows the fluid to cavitate and not properly shift.

Either way check the level first.

I was really curious if the fluid level. I checked it once, but it was cold when I checked it and I think it’s suppose to be at running temp. I’ll check the level again. Makes Perfect sense according to physics.
 
They tried to sell me on a bunch of things that I literally just did myself.
Not sure what else you expected at a dealership. That's how dealerships work.

You can literally see the brand new parts I installed and they tried to tell me they were worn out and needed replaced. Lol
So visit a different dealership, or try an independent shop.
My dealership is quite good and never tries to upsell me on anything that I don't need. Not all of them are like this, as shown by the one you visited. Nothing is requiring you to stay servicing at this one.

If the problem is happening as a result of the service they did, then see if you can work something out with them to have it fixed, and then stop patronizing their dealership.

Try cleaning the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I could be wrong on the name of it but I’m meaning the sensor on the back corner of the motor and almost at the bottom (down further than the oil filter, but at that same corner of motor) anyway unplug it and make sure oil from the VTC Solenoid or oil pressure switch hasn’t made its way down in it, if it has, wipe out with papertowel. That’s what I did after changing almost every single sensor on the car didn’t work, finally started shifting smooth again. Just to clarify it’s on the bottom corner of the motor closest to the front passenger wheel hub and all that

Try cleaning the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I could be wrong on the name of it but I’m meaning the sensor on the back corner of the motor and almost at the bottom (down further than the oil filter, but at that same corner of motor) anyway unplug it and make sure oil from the VTC Solenoid or oil pressure switch hasn’t made its way down in it, if it has, wipe out with papertowel. Good thought! I actually replaced that shift sensor two years ago. The one I pulled out was very clean, but I replaced it anyway. My shifting problem was fixed by adding transmission fluid,

Current issue is a high pitch wine when accelerating through 2nd and 3rd gear from a roll, or 1st and 2nd from a stop. The car shifts fine, but you hear a very high pitch wine. Last year i replaced the water pump, power steering pump and alternator. Might Hana small leak somewhere in power steering though as their is residual buildup on the side of the reservoir and also on top of alternator.

Same here, especially in colder weather. It’s been that way since I got it though and it’s not loud enough to embarrass me yet lol mine now has a total of 345,000 miles on it so I’ve got no complaints. And did you flush the transmission? Or just add more fluid?

I had Honda do a drain and fill originally, but they didn’t put the right amount of fluid back in and that caused me all sorts of issues. When I discovered that, I just added more fluid until it measured correctly on the stick while hot. Honda put probably a quart back in. No doubt I would have damaged the trans had I drove it any further.

I suppose I could go to a transmission place and have a flush done. It’s our only driver right now at 266k and we are about to buy a new SUV, so I’ll likely wait u til we have the second car before I do so.
