So my transmission died and needs a rebuild. I've read a bit on here about using the superior valve body kit, but wanted to know if there is anything I should know or a golden list of parts that'll keep away the slipping demon.

The rebuilt shop I did the BAYA trans rebuilt at used all Raybestos parts in a complete kit. I specified to use the Translab shift kit. An external trans cooler with cold temp bypass is an absolute must. Stick with DW-1 trans fluid or Valvoline maxlife , 1 drain and fill every 15k miles.

I appreciate you answering my question. A lot of people on here tend to lean towards the gate keeping type. So it is greatly appreciated that you genuinely responded to my question.

Isn't redline D4 synthetic also good? iirc its what MikeCZ recommends on his website. It or any other full synthetic fluid should let you run longer intervals than 15k.

You can try D4, I have never. Redline syn trans fluid has too little friction modifier to be comfortable for me and the TL guys were testing those fluids with transmission eventually flaring between shifts. I ran DW-1 and did 3x3 flushes every year until the torque converter clutch wore out at 275k miles and I drove in frequent heavy traffic. I started using Valvoline maxlife after the trans rebuild, because the trans shop recommended a multi-vehicle full syn fluid. Plus I don't need to give a gold block to buy 9 quarts of Valvoline maxlife.

Alright ordered the raybestos master kit and the translab valve kit. I will be recording and documenting my entire rebuild mainly for myself to remember where things go. If anyone has words of wisdom on the teardown or rebuild or valve install everything is helpful. Thank you all.

3rd gear steels and friction. Also the spring was destroyed in here. First hold up is pulling the parking gear. I need 2 like 1 foot m6 bolts for the puller. This filter screen from one of the solenoid. Imma be honest I don't know how it lasted this long...

WOW, that's completely TOAST. How often did you change the fluid or I should ask how hard you drove? You should have no debris in that little screen for the solenoid. Debris buildup there means fluid not changed often enough. My 3rd gear frictions look almost new when taken out at 275k miles, only the 1-2 frictions wore out the most.

All honesty totally my fault, but doing a full rebuild plus the superior valve upgrade. Hopefully another 13 years. I also have another good motor and another bad transmission. This car will never truly die.

If you are going to abuse it then by all means install an external trans cooler. I have a DIY written on that, just search for it. But really, if you want to really abuse it, get a 6-speed, however, you will still burn out the clutch if you drive hard enough.

I picked up a trans cooler to install once this trans is ready to be dropped in. I'd love to find a manual transmission to drop in it, but finding an ecu, harness, and a six speed I'd probably have better luck finding the money for the swap before the parts.

Life finds a way to pull this gear. Had to order these m6 threaded rods and nuts to make this happen. I had no bolts long enough. sad mechanic noises

This valve will not come out and sticks. I can not get it to scooch out with screwdrivers. Ordered a pick set we'll see how it goes.

Baya transmission. I have this valve that I can not get to advance out so I can replace them with the superior kit. Does anyone have any advice on getting a really stuck one of these out?

After a short covid vacation from all of life. Finally getting close to finishing the rebuild. Raybestos rebuild kit and the trans lab in it and it's going to better than new. Thank you all for the help and answers. I know I asked quite a bit of newb questions but here's the dedication to keeping these cars around.
