2002 Accord 4 cyl with factory reman automatic installed around 2018. I've had this issue for a couple of years and it's slowly getting worse. Oscillating scraping bearing type noise only occurs at idle when in Park, when it's put in gear the noise goes away. Can't notice it when driving. Found dirty automatic trans fluid back around when it started so I've been draining and refilling the fluid like every 6 months and trans still works fine. If the torque converter is going bad I'm thinking of having it replaced as the car is still in nice shape and otherwise runs well. Has anyone run into this and discovered the cause? One thing I was initially suspecting was a bad converter stator thrust needle bearing but a couple of videos I've seen on youtube demonstrate a bad thrust bearing noise as more of a whine and only when in gear while stationary and during driving... the opposite of mine. Some comments I've read are that a failing converter stator one way clutch could sound like this. Supposedly if something is failing in the trans pump would more likely than not make noise all the time which doesn't fit. The best analogy I can think of is it sounds to me like a ball bearing where the balls are skidding along a dry race while the bearing is not being loaded but it would be great to hear from anyone who has dealt with this.
