I want to change the atf today and was wondering if Castrol ATF Z1 will be ok. The bottles say it's made for Hondas and Toyotas. I'm guessing it should be fine?
I assume the "Z1" moniker, is a reference to Honda's old formulation, which would put them a bit behind the times. DW-1 is the latest Honda ATF and has been for years.I want to change the atf today and was wondering if Castrol ATF Z1 will be ok.
:thmsup:Just use Honda DW-1 and don't worry about it.......................................
Please believe, I've searhed a lot! There are so many threads in this website that it's hard to find the right one.You could've searched through this forum before posting this question... It has been asked a thousand times over, and the general majority will strongly recommend using ONLY Honda DW-1. It's not hard to acquire, not expensive, and is the only fluid that Honda recommends for use. Why in the world would you use anything else?? :dunno:
Your transmission is too important to use anything but the best. I would highly recommend against using anything other than DW-1. Also, once you pick a fluid you should stick with it. Don't mix that stuff.

Do I have to use new fluid for each time I refill it? I'm sorry, but today was the first time I've changed the trans fluid. If it was that dark and the plug was gunked up, I would do two more drain and fills.
Yes, and drive it between drains so the fluid circulates.Do I have to use new fluid for each time I refill it? I'm sorry, but today was the first time I've changed the trans fluid.
