Anybody else notice the smell of carbon after accelerating hard in their i4/CVT? I've noticed that if I use Sport Mode and get the revs up past 5k, I notice a carbon smell for just a brief moment. Is this normal?

It's VTEC venting some angry fumes.

I, and many others on this board, have experienced the stink after hard acceleration. It's a characteristic of the Accord and many other vehicles.

Be careful with the accelerator though, you may run out of that VTEC fuel. You'll only know when the angry fumes stop.

I have a sulfur smell in my V6 (sometimes) after hard acceleration onto the interstate. It has to due with a rich fuel mixture being burnt off by the catalytic converter (to my understanding). You sure it's a carbon smell?

^ I was wondering the same thing LOL

Sometimes carbon smell equates to burnt resistor smell.
:D

I didn't have a carbon smell after accelerating with my foot to the floor, but I did have the rotten egg smell bad. I looked it up and all the experts were in agreement that it was the catalytic converter and that it would eventually stop doing that. At about 20K miles I stopped noticing the smell after hard acceleration. I guess they were right.

Sulphur is what you're smelling. Kinda like rotten egg smell.

Yes, that's what I meant. I do know the difference, but for some reason the word sulphur escaped me and I guess my brain thought carbon was the closest thing LOL.

It's normal. The worst cars I've noticed it on are definitely Toyota's.

When I leave my office I have to climb a fairly steep on-ramp to the highway. I notice the smell when other cars gun it, but if it's a Lexus or Toyota in front of me... it's tenfold. Yuck.

Your car is normal, minus the low VTEC fluid :)
