I have a 9th gen accord v6 touring with the touch display in addition to the IMid display above. I am looking to put in a bigger screen than the stock touch display. A couple questions I have before I look into doing this:

  • What features (if any?) would be lost by making this change? ie. lost use of steering wheel buttons, backup camera/blind spot camera function, etc…
  • has anyone else had the stock touchscreen and replaced it with aftermarket touchscreen and had success with it?
  • does it cause any issues with Honda if I bring it in to have work done to the interior for any reason or void any kind of warranty?
  • lastly, since I’ve never done anything like this, if I buy the unit I’m looking at (Balsee 10.1in QLED unit) can I pay a place like car toys or radio shack to install for me? I’m not skilled enough to rip out the entire interior trim of my car and handle all the wiring

Thank you for taking the time to look at my post

You will need to get a few things to make this work and still retain all factory functions. Join the 9th Gen Accord group on FB

Do a search within the group for Edwin. He will have info on everything you need to correctly get everything up and running.

He also makes the wiring harness that is needed to make everything work. I have no knowledge of the radio company you are looking to buy the head unit from

    • Without a module to recreate all of the factory controls, you will lose all of the factory controls and the iMid screen will go black. The stock radio controls that screen.

    • Yes, several have replaced the head unit. However, "success" is relative though, because the module to retain factory iMid screen use is buggy and few have been happy with it. It's also annoying to use. But this is a good way to do it. Metra Online
    • Some have buried the factory radio into the dash to retain the use of the iMid screen. The annoying part is digging it back out to set the clock, which means taking the car apart again.

    • No. You're out of warranty anyway and unless you fry vehicle wiring doing a poor job installing it, there are no concerns with service.

    • When you buy an Android unit from China it is hit-or-miss. They are buggy, there is no tech support, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a shop that wants to touch it because you'll blame them when it fails (which may be soon). Most shops prefer you buy the head unit from them so they can warranty their work. If the unit dies or is DOA, you're paying the shop again. No shop will warranty work on equipment you provide.
If you're going to have a shop do the work, the Metra 99-7894B kit will allow for a double-din radio installation. But that kit is $500 and likely more than the radio you're looking at. These cars are a PITA to swap radios in.

Thank you for the thorough response! Answered a lot of questions I had and more

Thanks for all of this. I was thinking about changing out the unit in my wife's Accord. There's a lot of helpful information in here.

I appreciate you mentioning Edwin. I just reached out to him and hope I'm on the way to getting this done!
