i believe so until its warm

You shouldn't let your car idle that long, especially when it's cold. It puts undue wear on the engine and wastes gas. If its been out all night and it's cold, start it, let it run for maybe 30 seconds, and then drive normal but accelerate slowly untill the temp gauge on your dash is in the middle. Then you're all set to drive how you want.

But don't idle it for that long. An engine warms up faster and with less wear when driven than it does at idle.

And yes, high idle on a cold start is 1500-1750 rpm, depending on the car and temp.

6 to 7 minutes is a bit long for it to be on fast idle. Unless it's extremely cold outside.

Is the engine warming properly?

You'll need to scan it to see if the temp is coming up quickly enough. Usually by about 120 degrees it should be back to normal idle speed.

WOW I didnt know that I usually let warm up my car around 10 min while I get back to the house preparing to go out for work, mmm what about when is extremely cold and you have to turn on the window defroster on to melt the huge ice layer on top of the windshield (sometimes) :paranoid:

Your engine actually gets warmed up MUCH quicker than letting it sit idling in the morning. My car's temp gauge reaches normal within 5 minutes of driving and the heater starts blowing warm air within 3 minutes. So I never believe in letting your car warm up in the morning. I just get in and go.
