Hey everyone, I got this really weird problem with my 07 5speed. For some reason, I have to keep filling my coolant reservoir about an inch every few thousand miles. Is this normal for my car? My celica doesn't seem to have this problem. There is noticeable white smoke at my tailpipe when I start my car from a cold start. Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

What are you topping the system off with?

What I think you're seeing is steam, as in water generated by the cat that's flashed to steam as the temp comes up in the system.

Does your oil level rise? What color is the oil? Is there any funny looking goo on the oil cap?

Fill the tank to the full mark when HOT. It should drop about halfway between full and add when cold.

After that, check it cold, after it sits at least 8 hours, if possible.

Do you smell hot coolant when you stop at the end of a drive coming from under the hood?

Look around the engine compartment, the Type 2 will leave a tell tale blue to whitish crust wherever it leaks. Pay careful attention to the radiator, top and bottom, all hose connections, the water pump (behind the pulley) and the heater control valve near the firewall.

i topped off my reservior to the max line when it was cold, or very near cold. It doesn't seem to be mixing with my oil or anything cause my my oil just looks like oil and there doesn't seem to be any leaks also.

Did you use Honda's Type 2?

If it was burning, eventually it would mix with the oil as the coolant is in the combustion chamber, unless you have a crack in an exhaust port, but the steam/smoke normally doesn't go away. It also would poison the exhaust sensors and cat, eventually causing check engine lights.

Does it run rough in the mornings?
