One person in a 4-door may be inefficient, but when you only have a Coupe, try squeezing 4 people or 1 or more child seats in there. The 4-door just gives more options, not that I'm against driving a Coupe. ;)

With all the electronics, and switching back/forth between electric motor and ICE, it might just be too complex/expensive to put a manual with a clutch in there instead of an eCVT.

When I was a kid, we had a midsized 2-door coupe (for a few years) and we all got along fine riding around 4 people in that car. These days, people seem to need full-sized Expeditions/Suburbans to transport their little kids around in. I don’t know why kids these days need so much room like a limousine.

I don’t think it’s the electronics per se, but the added expense of certifying the new drivetrain combo with the EPA. Also, the MPG targets would be a lot lower which would lower the CAFE. A lose/lose proposition for them, basically.

@Accord_Mike - I bet your parents weren't required to put a child seat or two in the back... :D

For the Coupe-lovers amongst us, guess what...

New Ferrari Testarossa will be released for 2026 both as a Coupe and a Spider. They'll be >1,000-horsepower plug-in hybrids. Turbo V8 plus three electric motors for 0 to 62 in under 2.3 sec, maxing out at 205 mph. Up to 16 miles of electric-only driving at speeds of up to 81 mph.

Coupe estimated to cost ~$540,000 and Spider ~$590,000, not including import tariffs, sales taxes etc.

Which Coupe-lover amongst us is going to be first to get one and take me for a spin..? :giggle:

I don’t have kids yet, but I can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than trade my regular car for SUV. My parents seem to think I need a car like that if I ever have kids, but I don’t see why a regular coupe doesn’t perform the same basic function. My 2004 Accord is a sedan. Isn’t that good enough?

Coupe is a tighter squeeze.

Hurry up and have kids and make the parents happy! Then decide if you need an SUV or not...

I enjoy having a life and being able to see my friends too much for that kind of commitment. I also got lit up before because I dared to mention that I’d let my kids ride in my 2004 Accord. I guess it’s “unsafe?”

I think a goldfish may be a more appropriate commitment at this time.
