Trying to decide between these two colors for an LX. Originally was thinking modern steel metallic, but driving back from the dealership on Saturday I saw a black 2013 accord and it looked WOW.

I am REALLY struggling. I know black is hard to keep clean but I feel like black makes the car really look like all kinds of luxury and elegance (for a $20,000 car I feel like it looks as good as sedans costing double).

The modern steel metallic has a really hot look to it also, but it doesn't have that "wow" factor that black has when it's all cleaned up.

Black accord owners- do you kick yourself for getting such a difficult color to maintain?

Also a little bummed that I didn't spring for the sport model. They only had the champagne color and red for the sport model and I don't love those colors. They could order a black or MSM sport but I've spent so much time at dealerships lately I really don't want to put this off another week or longer.

Wait for the Sport. It's a large purchase, you should be happy with it. If your current situation allows you to wait, I say get a black Sport.

I agree, don't just get an LX because it's all they have at that dealer right now.

I got MSM for that very reason, even when dirty it still looks good, though not as nice as a clean black car.

It's your choice, if you get black I highly recommend getting it coated with Optimum Opti-Coat (what I use on my car) and learning how to properly wash and dry a car. Check out forums like Autogeek, Autopia, etc. Otherwise it's going to get swirled to high hell and look like crap.

Thanks guys for the input. I'm leaning heavily toward black pearl.

I would wait for the sport, but I am stretching my budget a little as it is so I figured if that had a sport in stock with a color I like I'll go with it, but if they don't I'll just take it as a sign that I should save some cash and stick with the LX which is amazingly well equipped for a base model.

Is the opti-coat an add on feature from the dealer or something I could get done at local car wash? I certainly don't want my car to "get swirled to high hell"

good cleaning and waxing habits will help black, but its not going to solve any issues perm. Black is black, and black is a pita to take care of. Your weather and how dirty your location is will play a large roll as well. Where I live, its too dusty, Black is dirty before you finish drying it.

Regardless of color. Getting the LX is a mistake if you can afford the Sport. That sport in either color is going to look WAYYYYY better then the LX due to rims and exhaust, spoiler etc.

Wait for the sport.

My car is hella hard to keep clean. But I NEVER go through an automatic car wash. The brushes will absolutely swirl the paint. I only bucket wash from now on. Keep it waxed with Meguiars Gold Class for a super sexy wet look.

Black,
Do a search here about detailing. There is so much info here about not getting swirls on a new paint job. If you wash and protect correctly, you will not get swirls. Read glen_e's postings, he will put you on the right track. (No automatic washes)

Black is a pain in the ass, but it's mostly worth it.

I finally became a rinseless convert and it has made life so much easier. Honestly, ditch the hose! It also helps mask minor swirls. I use a two bucket method, but many use the Garry Dean method (search Youtube).

This stuff only costs $7 at Walmart and works every bit as good as Optimum: http://www.turtlewax.com/detail-Turtle Wax Rinse Free Wash & Wax-9-175.aspx

do the math per wash and its no where near as good as other riseless........(because TW uses 4 x as much per wash)= 8 washes per bottle
Duragloss 16 oz for $10 and you use 1 oz = 16 washes per bottle- (shipping 5 bucks)

A few months ago I started new car shopping and saw a Sport(MSM) in the showroom, man I fell in love with that car,but felt that it was out of reach. Two weeks ago I decided I was getting a new Accord and I was settling for an LX in silver, they only come in 3 colors up here.It was gonna take a couple days for the dealer to get it for me,and that evening I got thinking 'Is the LX what I really want?"The next morning I phoned the dealer and asked if it was too late to cancel the LX and get me in a Sport? No problem, and now I'm the happy owner of a MSM Sport.I am sooo glad it was going to take a couple days to get the LX in,not that there is anything wrong with the LX,but it just doesn't stir me like the Sport that is parked in my garage.

Sounds like you really want the black, so go for it. Learn proper wash techniques, and spend the $$ to have a well-researched and highly-recommended local detailer (i.e., not the dealership or Johnny on the Corner) polish it out when she starts to look a little dull.

For what it's worth, though --- I had an '07 Nighthawk Black Accord that was a pain; every car since it has been silver or white :lmao:

Black is such a trouble to keep clean, but looks freaking amazing. Not to mention, you can match pretty much any wheel, and go with different color schemes you want.

How is it no where near as good? So you use more fluid, but you have the convenience of buying it locally for $7 and not having to wait for it to ship to you. Even then it's cheaper than the example you provided.

Duragloss: 16 oz. for $15.69 w/ shipping (1 oz per use) = $0.98 per use (1 oz.)
TurtleWax (at Walmart): 33 oz. for $6.97 (4 oz per use) = $0.84 per use (4 oz.)

FWIW, I'm not trying to push Turtle Wax because I don't usually think highly of their products, but this one works great.

10 4 - at 7 bucks it works....

+1

Get the Sport! It's well worth the extra money. Can't go wrong with either color. My wife has a CBP and I have a MSM.
