I got a warning about my previous post. Apparently speeding is not allowed on this forum, and I respect that. I guess I'll ask a theoretical question and I hope the admin can allow this question.

Is there a speed limiter on our car, or does it just go till the tach breaks? If not, V6 cars can get out of control.

I think most cars that are capable of >155 MPH speeds are limited to 155 MPH. However, I highly doubt that the Accord V6 could reach 155, at least stock.

why would you care unless you plan on speeding :thumbsdow

Honda does have a speed limiter. It can be seen in action on one of the sites that shows dyno tests. The shut down speed is nominally 125, but it appears to be about 128 in reality.

There is a speed-based fuel cut and a rev-based fuel cut, they are separate. There are various mechanisms for clamping both, including an HKS aftermarket tool. The feature is also available with some aftermarket piggyback ECUs, such as the MapECU3.

The speed-based fuel cut is not the same for all levels of the car. I think the V6s can get up to 130.

Are you planning on off road racing on a track? I would review your tires and suspension. If you are really going to be running that fast; get an SCCA membership and start running around cones knocking them over and then work your way up.

Remember that you never race your DD - only race what you can afford to roll into a ball of foil. Good luck and use common sense with going fast in cars. It is allowed - just needs to be done correctly.

V-6 Coupe Limiter

Hi guys! I'm new to this forum and also have a new 2013 Coupe EX-L V-6 MT. I was just wondering and reading about how my car has a "limiter"? I'm not even sure if that's what you call it but is there any way I can take that out? Or change something in the computer? I haven't taken it that fast yet since it's still pretty new and I'm kinda babying it for now. Any advise or suggestions will help! Thanks!

Sure you can. Simply remove the ECU. It's in a metal enclosure behind the glove box. The metal enclosure contains the ECU, which contains the speed limiter, so just yank the metal box out. Voila!

It isn't flash-programmable like the Mustang, no. Maybe if Hondata or somebody gets around to making a programmer.

In the meantime you can use something like an HKS SLD or a similar feature in a piggyback ECU if you are wanting to track your car or do speed tests at an airport or whatever. Or simply have somebody who knows what they are doing clamp the voltage on the speed sensor so it can't trip the speed cut, but that will turn off the speedo above 130. You probably would want a GPS system to measure speeds and times anyway for trials.

Kiss your Warranty goodbye!

Governor/Limiter keeps it below 105 mph. true/false ?

Hello folks, I'm new. Bought a new 2015 White LX v6 3.6L (160 miles, test driven a few times), from dealer in March 2016. I'm still on the original oil. One of my co-workers said Honda's Speed Governor/Limiter keeps it below 105 mph. true/false ?

I gather "any" modifications with Governor void warranty ?

I dislike the stock "coffin" wheels. anybody had experience with 20" x 8.0" wheels ? I believe stock wheels are 19" x 7.5" .

Only modifications I made so far was Review:

Gorilla Automotive 61631 Acorn Gorilla Guard Locks (12mm x 1.50 Thread Size) - Pack of 4 Size: 12 Millimeter x 1.50 Model: 61631 Car/Vehicle Accessories/Parts

from Reviewer 2 on June 18, 2016

Scared 1st time I took car out with them on.

Contours where bevel contacts wheel weren't even close to the stock wheel nuts. They've stayed put.
I have a 2015 Honda Accord Coupe 3.6L V6, which I bought new from a dealer in March 2016. The Gorilla website said these were what I needed.
We'll see if they damaged my wheels when I put snow tires on this winter.

Really? I have have personally made it to 140 in my 00' Coupe V6. If that wimpy 3.0 with that crappy 3 speed with overdrive can do it I know 3 extra gears, half a liter, and another 100hp can surely make it to 155 in the right conditions.

105 is false.

We hit 115 in the Sport on a runway autocross event this summer (after the event we were given about 30 minutes to play around on one of the runways in the Airfield). The car completely runs out of steam around ~115 so my guess is the fuel cutoff is set to just below 120.

Based on that I'm confident the V6 may have a higher limit. Pirx is probably on the money, around 130.

Drag-limited top speed of the 3.5l V-6 models is somewhere in the upper 150s, with a stock engine, flat road and no wind.

Every new vehicle I have owned (the Accord is the 5th now) has speed limiter set at the speed rating of the stock tires. The Accord Coupe EX-L has OEM Michelin Primacy MXV4 V speed rated tires, so 149 mph. H rated would be 130 mph.

I once tried out the speed limiter on my prior 2009 370Z 6MT, which was limited to 158mph, 10mph shy of the W speed rated tires that came stock on it. The Z had a rough time reaching 158, FWIW.

I am not familiar with Hondata or ECU reflash. However, there was a reference to this on another forum, Honda v6 performance or something like that.

- Ignition timing optimized.
- Rev limit increased to 7300 rpm
- Speed limiter removed.
- 5 lb-ft increase in mid-range torque.
- 5 Hp mid-range increase.

Hmm, I wonder why only for the Manual?
