Hey guys,

First time posting. I've searched all over the Google, YouTube, forums searching for an answer but haven't found one. I'm getting a P0497 code and have traced it to a leak.

The problem is, I have no idea what the hell is going on here. There's a hose that's T'd off at the vapor canister leading to an inlet attached to the frame of the car behind the driver side rear wheel. Ive got the raw fuel smell and smoke rolls out of the cracks in this section of the frame rail. I cannot see any connections possibly leading to the fuel tank after the inlet in the frame. Does anyone know what this is about, what the purpose is and how I might fix it?

That hose is for the EVAP Vent Shut Valve. That's where filtered air from the EVAP Canister exits to the atmosphere. It is usually open, unless the ECU commands it shut to purge canister vapors to the engine.

Whether that has anything to do with your P0497 code, I don't know. Fuel smell seems kinda normal, smoke does not. Might not have anything to do with the code at all. Here's the diagnostic procedure from the service manual.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in the post; the smoke was coming from a smoke machine I built to test for leaks. It makes more sense that the inlet would be a dump, though I find it strange to dump into the frame.. Thank you so much for the PDF! I'm going to try to put that to use this weekend if the wife changes our vacation plans! The Accord averages 16-18mpg, is that normal for city/freeway with these cars or a potential byproduct of my problem? I read the figures were claimed significantly higher.
