So a little over a year and a half ago, I got this:

So I want to get it repaired. I would assume it's too late to go through insurance since it happened so long ago - money was really tight back then. So can anyone suggest a repair shop that won't rape me on the repair costs in central NJ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

I don’t know of any shops sorry but you can buy a new one for about $75-80 Sedan or$115-120 Coupe then have them paint it and install it or you can do the install your self if your mechanically inclined. Also make sure they use fiberglass filler rather then Bondo if you have them fix it. Fiberglass filler will last longer and is not as susceptible to hot and cold weather.

Good to know!! I had no idea you could purchase a replacement part so easily. I would imagine it's a bit of a pain to get that piece off/on the car though. Ever done it?

Yes, its not that bad at all 6 bolts total and detach it from the inner fender panel and you can remove the fender. The bolts are 10mm and you need a flat screwdriver to remove the push pins on the inner fender panel. Total time should be about an hour for the work.

Anybody wanna take a guess as to what it would cost to have a fender professionally painted off the car? Or would it be better to buy this piece, put it on the car, and take it to be painted so they could match it better? I've never had a car or a part of one painted before, so I'm semi-clueless.

It would be best to put it on and bring it to them to paint on the car. This will prevent you scratching it puting it on as well as will allow them to better color match the paint prior to you driving the car home.

Have you talked to some Paintless Dent Repair shops? They may be able to hammer it back out (since they have easy access to the back of the dent). It would look practically smooth and you couldn't even tell there was damage (Paintless Dent Repair is great!). The only thing remaining is that small area of damage, but these PDR shops usually may be able to help as well.

It'd probably cost less than a whole new fender + full painting of the new fender, and you'd still have the original factory fender.

That is always an option but the hard part is the body line in the fender. Where the dent is at its hard to recreate that body line w/ filler and you definitely can’t do it w/ a hammer and dolly. But you can always as for free estimates at a body shop for their professional opinions.

repair

don't know where you are in central nj but
wreck or mend is on route 33 east in howell
they have done a lot of my friends cars they are good and reasonable
if they replace the fender and then paint you might be surprised at the price body work has become ridiculously expensive
if you are not too anal you can properly buff out the scratches then touch-up the paint and live with it with some cash in your pocket

I actually live in Howell and saw that place when I did an Google search. I'm glad you mentioned it. I'll have to call and ask them. I think going with Hondaonda's plan might work out best - get the fender, put it on, and then have someone paint it for me. Thanks for the continuing advice everyone!!

Sorry to revive my old thread here, but I have a quick question. I never got my fender repaired (lazy). Now the summer's coming and I want the car looking as fresh as possible. I went to car-part.com after finding it in another thread on this forum and found a coupe fender for $75! However, it's from a 2005. Do any of you have any reason to believe that the 2005 fender wouldn't fit on my 2004?? Please advise! I'd like to purchase this soon if it'll fit.

Thanks!

Thanks! Now is the passenger side the right or the left? Going by the illustration on that page, it says the "Fender Right" is the driver's side. But I would think it's the opposite....
