Bought a 2009 Accord Sedan EX-L V6 back in September, and jus this morning something happened:

I went to the self-serve car wash just to rinse the dirt off the car. As i got home and did a walk around I noticed a spot right under the grill. It seems that the front bumper is peeling!! The clear coat is flaking off and seems it could get bigger. I dont know how it could all of sudden peel from a simple rinse? Can you guys let me know what I should do? Im afraid of rust developing from that area. Could it be a defect and covered under warranty? Or am i screwed and have to pay for it myself? This certainly ruined my day. :headbash:

wow, that really ****s. sorry to hear that. that is the clearcoat layer peeling off.
first, its plastic, so its not going to rust. thats only if its metal.
second, don't hesitate and go right to the dealer. that should not happen at all to a car that is only a 2009. the only thing i can think of is that some sort of chemical got on the car while you were driving. but i dont think the dealership could prove it. if they give you a hassle, just be firm with them that a car that is only 2 1/2 years old should not be doing that. good luck!

Yea i was sooo pissed when I saw that. I was wondering the same thing since its only 2009.

Did you buy it new or had a paint job?
I bought it used last year. Was never in a accident nor had any sort of paint job. For not even reaching 3 years like he said it should not be doing this!

How do you know the front bumper has not been re-painted before when you bought the car used?
When buying it used from the dealer used I was told it has no accident records. Carfax and such as well. Unless I was lied to?

Just because it has no accident records, it doesn't meant the front bumper has NOT been repainted before.
Do you think going to the dealer about this would be a waste of time? Im just angry that this happened. I would hate to leave it as it is since everytime i walk past it my eyes stare at that spot and since the car is only 2 1/2 years

Ummmm.. that is very odd. Chevy had a recall for having bad lamination on body panels. It looked like what you shown in your pictures.

Unless the dealer can prove otherwise, it may be that the front bumper was repainted at one time.

They may have to take the bumper off and check to verify... Most body shops do not try to hide everything. So it may cost ya having them looky at it and find that it was.

one word: cheap paint. I had it all, rock chips, peeling around the headlights and taillights...got fed up and decided to repaint it..

Its definitely a paint problem. At first I thought you hit the bumper but then the base coat would also crack and peal. It is definitely a cheap paint or they did not properly paint the bumper, temp and etc. Go to where you bought the car from and tell them to repaint the whole thing.

Alright thanks for everyones replies. I thought that it was just a bad bumper and began to peel. So was wondering if it will be repaired by the dealer under warranty for poor clear-coat. I will probably go to a local shop and get it repainted. :bawling:

One more thing what would a paint job like this cost? I was guessing $200-400? :dunno:

you guys are nuts...this is clearly a clearcoat problem with no loss of basecoat. all you need is to paint clearcoat over it...you feather sand the edges with 1200 grit carefully (keyword, carefully so you don't remove basecoat), and then apply solvent prep, wax and grease remover, then spray on good quality clearcoat from a automotive paint store, shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks for a can... and then sand with 1500 grit to smooth the surfaces.. VOILA!!!! check youtube for professional videos on how to blend clearcoat.

then take the money that you would've spent at a body shop 300+ dollars and take your girl out to a fancy restaurant. you can thank me later

:notworthy Sounds like a very good idea actually. Its about 3 inches wide, so i was thinking of leavin it, but then again I'd hate to do that to her. Might jus take up on your idea here! Maybe watch a few Youtube clips and really get the guts to use my own hands... :paranoid:

Our 2008 Honda Civic was crunched between two cars when a driver hit us from behind while she talked on a cellphone.

The damage was $3,000 to repair the rear bumper and the front hood. Nothing about the accident ever showed up on Carfax even though we handled it through a reputable body shop and our insurance company.

Interesting.

That's the point, I'd rather trust my own eyes and fingers to inspect the actual car rather than looking at papers.
