Hey guys, have a bit of a situation & looking for advice. My Girlfriend went to Millenium Honda in Hempstead, NY to pick up her 2015 White Accord sport for $22,900 + tax & DMV fees, had a written up deal, but I made the mistake of not going with her when she picked it up. She gets home and I saw they added $5,900 worth of BS warranty. $2900 for a 6 yr 75k mile not even hondacare warranty, aftermarket CCC warranty, and I kid you not $3000 for a tire and wheel and etching (?) warranty. Payment came to $458 for 75 months! They told her she had to take those out to get a 4.99% rate with her 650 credit score.

She called to ask about cancelling and they said they couldn't cancel the etching thing and her interest rate would then be 10.99% with interest that compounds daily and would be like $544/month.

On top of all this they blatantly lied to us assuring us several times they had a 2014 White Sport on the lot which is why we drove so far when they never had one that's why we had to get the 2015. After we got there they were all like oh it's in storage and then it was oh it's actually a 2015. So our agreed amt went from 21.7k to 22.9k and then this happened.

This is total BS, do I have recourse? Can I complain to Honda Corporate?

For what it's worth, here is the car in our driveway:

Do NOT drive the car. Go to te dealership and strongly suggest to have the BS removed from the contract. If that doesn't work, call the financing company and tell them you'll never make a payment. Cars have been returned to the dealer before, you can do it too.

Wow!

I'll stop there. After that you don't want to hear what I have to say.

Believe I was pissed and in disbelief, and it just made her so upset. It is a tough situation.

I got my 2011 5MT LX sedan from them..I vowed never too buy another car from them...call channel 7 news..7 on your side. ..call whomever u think will help you get some resolve too this..the only thing is..there probably gonna say oh well, she signed for it.and there hands are tied..dealers prey on women who come in alone..it's sad..did she read all the papers that she signed??..the finance guys says here sign this and sign that, and people sign for things that are total BS,and of course stuff that they didn't want..I would try the better business bureau too..good luck

Three words: cancel that shat!

If they wouldn't do it, I'd definitely publicize this and spread it on the web such as dealerrater or edmunds.com (take a picture of the invoice and post it on those sites to substantiate your claim).

If they still don't cave, I'd contact BBB and consider legal action as a last resort.

Upon a second read, I'd say the first mistake was made when they told you they didn't have a 2014 in stock. You should have left there. I would have. NEVER let the dealer take complete control of the deal or they WILL EAT YOU ALIVE.

But I agree, DO NOT drive that car! Pony up and rent a car for a couple weeks if you have to while trying to get this mess resolved.

I need to add she traded in a 2007 Ford Focus w/115k miles they gave her $1500 for it, so that might complicate things.

My wife is a medical professional who specializes in the care and rehabilitation of adolescent athletes, NOT a savvy businesswoman. I could see the same thing happening to her (or her grandmother, which is why I helped her by her Camry). Take it back to the dealership and run up the chain until you are speaking to the highest person there at the time. Be polite, don't swear, plead your case (maybe exaggerate that your GF felt pressured into those items and was very distraught over the process). I have a feeling if you can act like a professional and make a solid case you will have no problem getting those items removed from the contract.

To be honest, since I do look for opportunities to do such things, I would stress the fact that you went there for a 2014 at a certain price and the whole process seemed very dishonest and like you were being "bait and switched", see if maybe that person will go a little farther than just removing the extra garbage.

Also, believe the insurance rate thing to a certain point, those guys have a lot of flexibility to make the deals and they can drop to some incredibly low rates if you push hard enough. Toyota took my Tacoma to a .99 when the best he told me he could do was a 4.99 and I told him I was leaving.

That does not matter. Get the Focus back and cancel the whole deal if you have to. Take the Focus and take it to the next honest dealer. They will give you that amount or close to it with no BS warranty! Your priority is to get the $5900 BS charge back, right?

You need to talk to the GM, there's no way they can't remove the additional stuff. Read the warranty info, it'll tell you where to cancel within 30-60 days.

Well put. I would first go back and have the manager removed those charges from the contract. Be polite but firm. If that does not work, well, then I'd consider taking some of the advised actions provided here.

I don't know the laws in NY state, but my guess is she's done like dinner.
Other than maybe trying to get your own financing hooked up Monday morning and go into the dealership with a check for the balance minus the etching.

You may have some recourse for the extended warrantee and maybe the financing, but if she is over 18 and you don't have guardianship of her due to her having mental incapacitation the purchase order she signed is a valid contract and they have the right to collect the full amount of the sale immediately. "Caveat Emptor" let the buyer beware. I'm not an attorney so I can't give legal advice and I didn't play one on TV. I think a real attorney would tell you the same thing.

My wife worked at a Honda dealer here in California and she was able to get my friend off the extended warranties. Go to finance and simply tell them to void/cancel any of the extended warranties, they wont give you cash or checks but will credit it back to your loan. Btw some extended warranties can be canceled even after a year or so, those will be pro rated though. Hope all goes well.

I had a female friend get slightly "ripped" off when she purchased a Sport right after I did from a different dealer. Basically they said she had to buy some paint protection and extended warranty to get .9%...and they had added $500 on top of purchase price from dealers desk to when she signed papers. They did the whole "its 9pm" and lets rush bullshit.

Yes its her fault that she agreed and signed everything, just like your GF.

In my friends case, she contacted Honda about the claim of needing extra crap for .9%. They told her that wasn't the case. She then became a PITA with the General Manager (calling multiple times a day and not just once waiting for him to call back) -- took a few weeks but the extended warranty was cancelled and there was a refund check issued for the $500 and paint protection.

In her case, she wouldn't have been paying some ridiculous amount even with add ons because the price she worked out on the car was so good. I guess the dealer tried to make it up with BS and lies.

Moral of story: Make a lot of calls. Start with Honda. Also, a lot of states have laws that allow cars to be "returned" in a certain amount of days after purchase.

Cancel the entire deal. They will screw you no matter what.
