Hi All,

I bought Honda Extended Care at the dealer for $800 more than what Saccucci Honda sells it for. I financed through American Honda. I was wondering if anyone has canceled their original plan and...

1) Whether the "refund" went back to the principal? If yes, did your monthly payments stay the same but the duration of the financing became shorter?

2) Is Saccucci (or Hyannis, etc.) known around these boards to be reputable?

My dealer just got back to me and said -- which I took with more than a grain of salt (1) they have doubts about the legitimacy of these dealers and doubt that they will be honored in Cali [which sounds like nonsense, since it's Honda that's on the hook] and (2) they cannot meet Saccucci's quote, but they would be happy to give me a product worth $825 - like paint protection ;-)

Thanks for your help!

Idk anything about extended warranties - yet - but I do know that my dealer threw a paint protection package called ZakTek which is just some polymer based wax put on by a lot guy with a dirty rag twice year for 2 or 3 years.

If it's the same thing, it's not worth $800, assuming you would even take them up on that offer.

My understanding is that the refund would reduce the principal, instead of coming back to you as a cash refund. I am pretty sure that they would not re-amortize the loan - i.e., your payments remain the same but you pay off earlier.

Both Saccucci and Hyannis are relatively close to where I live. In fact, I have dealt with Saccucci for our Pilot's service needs, and for a possible purchase of an Accord. They are just fine.

In March, I bought my Honda Care from Hyannis, who tends to have the lowest possible price online. It was a very easy process, taking no more than 15 minutes via email and phone call to provide my CC number. Bob was responsive, straight forward and down to earth.

I had about a tad below 6,000 miles when I purchased, and I got the 8/120/$0 deductible plan for $1,040. I got a genuine Honda Care welcome packet shortly thereafter, so I know it is legit and backed up by American Honda. All Honda dealers would honor the warranty, as they would be paid by Honda for covered service, no matter where you get the car serviced vis-a-vis where you purchased the plan.

You should be aware that dealers would charge you more if you had previously cancelled a Honda Care plan on the same car. Please confirm this, but that is what I was told. In fact, the online quote and application contain questions about whether you had a plan previously. I was also told told that it would cost more after 6,000 miles though you can purchase at any time until the basic warranty expires.

If you are going to take a dealer credit, you should get something tangible that you actually want (e.g., wheels, tint, accessories) at a very fair price, not their usual MSRP.

I cancelled my third-party extended warranty about 2 months ago and I am still waiting to see the money be refunded to the loan amount. Going to make a trip out to the dealer tomorrow.

If you drive less than 10,000 miles per year, it may be advantageous to buy your warranty just before the basic one expires. You can get another 2 years of Hondacare
for a few hundred more than buying it when you buy the car. Actually extend it to 9 years. Especially, at Sancussi.

On Sacucci's quote: *Re-purchase Surcharge: The above prices are for vehicles that have never had a Honda Care plan purchased for them. If you have previously had a Honda Care contract on the vehicle and cancelled it please add $100 to the price. Please mention the previous cancellation when ordering your new plan or the contract will not be valid.

Not long after buying a $2000 third-party extended warranty from our dealer's profit center, I discovered buying a Honda Care warranty at a discount from Saccuci or Hyannis Honda. I had 60 days to cancel the former warranty, and did so, and purchased the same terms from Honda Care (C82 warranty) for less than half. Caveat emptor.

Funny this post showed when it did, I went onto Saccucci website the other day to confirm availability and was presented with a response that stated We're afraid there are no eligle plans for your 2016 Honda Accord V-6 (2,300 miles). Huh?

Might not be miles, might be age.

Don't buy one until the original warranty is about to expire. You don't need two warranties at the same time. I've bought mine from Bernardi Honda Natick MA for $900.
