Do our 2013 Accords have HD Radio? My dealer emphatically said "yes!" when I bought the car (EX-L coupe), although I find it strange that there wouldn't be an HD symbol on the screen when tuned into an HD station like on any other car. Also, if it is HD, the sound quality certainly is lacking.

What's the deal?

Crazy. Even the low-end Hyundai models have HD radio. Any idea why it would've been left out? Perhaps we'll get it with the iMID update?
Hyundai also has XM on the Sonata GLS. You have to move to the EXL to get XM on the Accord.

But the Accord has a backup camera standard, higher mpg, faster acceleration, etc.

There are some areas where other midsize cars are ahead on features, etc., and HD radio is one of them. I think your dealer misled you....

Was hoping for some sort of quote / something official / something with a source.

Route66, HD radio is a higher fidelity radio broadcast that most big cities have - certain popular stations often have a multi-cast transmission that allows people with HD Radio receivers to pick up on this higher quality transmission. Similar to local stations being broadcast in standard definition and HD, both of which can be picked up with rabbit ears.

How does the sound of HD compare with the sound of XM radio?

This is why I wanted some sort of official source / quote - who knows whether or not we have the hardware to pick up HD radio? Seems to me it's just as likely our cars have the capability as it's an inexpensive antenna, and as previously mentioned, many other lower-end cars have HD radio built in.

Route66 - can't say, I'd have to hear them side by side, but HD is far superior than standard FM. Immediately noticeable when switching back and forth in an HD Radio-equipped car.

Thanks for the answers Mongoose.

Just search the owners manual for HD, all you come up with is HDD.
I do find the FM tuner pretty sensetive, I am outside philly and it picks up many many stations, way more than I ever knew existed.
Perhaps I ignored them in the past.

I'd rather have HD radio than XM! One of the features I wish the Accords had.
Absolutely. XM isn't that great, it's expensive and the quality is inferior to bluetooth audio (with high quality files streaming from an iPhone 5, at least).

Wondering if there is some sort of adapter that can be used to equip the iMID with HD. Doubting it as the software interface would be involved. Lesigh. First world problems.

Agreed. I won't be subscribing to XM when my free trial runs out. Honda should definitely be doing HD radio. I think the new RLX will have it, so Honda's will probably get them in the next couple years.

But how popular is HD radio compared to XM? Does it make financial sense to support HD radio to the Accord's targeted demographic?

Me personally, I heard about HD radio years ago, but never again. Didn't even know it still existed until this thread. Big city thing?

edit: I looked it up, I have one "HD radio station" in my area. Classical music and NPR. I'll keep the XM.

My first post. I did the diagnostic mode on my v6 ex-l the other day. Somewhere in there I came upon a "HD Radio". I was not able to do anything with it, but it is noted somewhere in the software. Just my .02

I know this is an older thread, but I just bought my EX-L w/ Navi last week and the owners manual talked about a menu option for the HD radio. However when I go to view that menu option it doesn't exist. So my guess is that it will probably be installed on a future update.
