My 2006 V6 Sedan has 150k on it and the headlights continue to 'yellow' up. I've buffed and sealed them a couple of times, but it keeps happening. This last time, I burnt the headlight with my rotary, so I've had enough. Looking online, they aren't all that expensive in the aftermarket. But! I don't want to buy garbage and deal with this again in a year. Also, I notice some now have some led's built in/projectors, too. They look nice. I do have a morimoto HID kit in the low beams. Please. Don't school me on how bad they are. They put out a better pattern than OEM and I've never been flashed. Save your breath.

What do you all suggest for replacements?

Thanks for the time and counsel!

Aftermarket headlights are not always the best option, they often have cheaper lenses that don't really hold up too well.

Since you're already using HIDs you might as well get a set of projector headlights and do it the proper way instead of your current hack.

If you're not using a projector, the UV put out by the HID capsule is busy wrecking your headlights from the inside out.

I once did HID in on an equally old Honda, but went with the whole shooting match: installed bixenon projectors, fused wiring directly off the battery and used the headlight plugs as triggers for the relays (one on each side) for the ballasts.

In short, I didn't want to give my headlight lenses the "double whammy" (UV from the outside via the sun, and UV from the the inside via the Philips D2S arc discharge capsules), so yes I installed projectors.

Knowing what I know now, installing an OEM projector from a 4th Gen Acura TL would be my choice (I think it would fit, but you need to do some Dremel surgery to the reflector.) I would stay away from TRS (The Retrofit Solution) projectors, as I've had two of them fail (the reflector burned in one, peeled in another).

Leads me to believe their own "TRS house brand" of 4G TL projector is a cheap red chinese copy. If you decide to do it right and install projectors, you want genuine Japanese OEM parts.

If you go with any of the CAPA headlight assemblies, you'll just be in the same boat again, destroying the clear lens material from the inside out. The UV protectant on the inside is only made to offer UV resistance to the small amount of UV emitted from a halogen bulb, not the sheer volume of it from your re-based HID capsules.

I put this one mine in 2015 and it still looks brand new. It was $40 back then. PO had replaced the other side before I bought it. He bought it from the dealer and paid $150.

Just apply UV resistant clear film (similar to PPF) on the headlights and they won’t yellow/haze.
If he uses a projector installed into the reflector, then this is truly a great way to do it.

If he sticks with re-based capsules (D2S with base removed, and 9005/9006 conversion), he'll still be in a similar situation (UV emissions from the capsule wrecking the headlights from the inside out).

Get the CAPA parts, bake 'em and open them up, install OEM projectors (surgery required), re-assemble (use some octyl rubber to make sure they are sealed) and apply that UV film to the outsides.

Stay away from "Spyder" ... my experience listening to other trying something similar has been that removing the H1 halogen bulbs and putting in mini-H1 rebased HID capsules tends to toss a sh1t-ton of light into the foreground (called "puddle lights") and not putting enough light down the road, along with some stray light going up into the eyes of everybody else. Better to just use an OEM headlight and a mini-H1 HID bixenon drop-in projector, if these are still on the market.

If you have the extra cash, I would highly recommend the Inspire JDM headlights, probably around $500-600 imported. They're a factory reflector HID, so its aimed properly (within reason, its a RHD headlight so some aiming needed) and light output is nice and wide at night while looking pretty aggressive and unique. They have blackhoused and chrome versions. Not to mention the high beam was relocated to the top, which has a pretty massive area for reflecting, I put 6000K Sylvania LEDs in there to shine the most light. wiring is pretty simple, just have the parking and turn signal lights split into two separate areas so you share a common ground and have to add that to both.

This is really cool. I had no idea the Inspire had HIDs. A quick search on eBay shows they exist for the 8th gen too.

They're a factory reflector HID,
I'm a big, big fan of OEM from-the-factory reflector HID.

If JDM, then I'm pretty sure these use D2R HID capsules.

In actual use, I can't tell the difference between Osram and Philips and Hella D2R's.

Previously I removed the OEM H1-type halogen headlights on my 3G Altima 3.5 SE, and installed the Nissan OEM D2R HID reflector headlights from a 3.5 SE-R Altima (along with Nissan OEM ballasts, ignitors, wiring and connectors).

That was the best lighting upgrade I've ever done on any car, using premium stock components. D2R HID paired with an OEM made-for-HID reflector gives great down-the-road lighting with just the right amount of uptick to illuminate road signs without blinding anybody.

Have the same type of lighting, namely Acura OEM from-the-factory D2R HID in my 2G Acura TL.

I think these are better than HID projectors, since the engineered-for-HID reflector doesn't have the constraint of having to use a cutoff shield ... you just end up with light going where it is supposed to go....where you want it to go.

On both my Nissan and Acura I switched the 9005 halogen high beam bulbs to 9011 (HIR1) halogen infrared bulbs ... another primo upgrade in lighting capability.

@Shumax1 , have you considered just switching to halogen infrared (HIR) bulbs? It's what we've got on a pair of 8G Accords and three 9G Civics. Noticeable upgrade from stock lighting. Does even better if you add relays to those low beams. As well, changing just the low beams is probably the most cost-effective change (i.e., using 9012 (HIR2)) bulbs.

i have some ebay projector headlights (from k2motor, i think?) that i converted to hids. the projectors appear to have been mounted with hopes and dreams so the lights do the honda jiggle on the highway and a friend i was driving behind (in a cx5) told me they are "very annoying" so maybe don't buy those.

on the plus side (?) no one ever flashes their lights at me and they're not nearly as obnoxious as led lights / Truck Guys so it could be worse

Done. Where do I buy them? Be specific? I'm game, 100%

I have not. But, give me specifics on what's needed. Money is an object, but it's my kids car. Within reason, I'm willing to pay to get good lighting down the road, safely. I prefer knowing, exactly, what I need to buy. I'm handy, but really don't want to rip lights apart to make things 'work.' Within reason, I will pay for plug and play.

Thanks for all of the guidance. It's appreciated!

If you can find the reflector-based OEM HID getup that @losiracer1987 shows in his posts (I'm almost certain it uses D2R), you end up with something that is very similar to the D2R HID setup I had in my Altima, and that I'm using now in my Acura.

It's hard to beat. I didn't even know it existed until @losiracer1987 posted pics.

Where can I find these? Honda SABER INSPIRE UC1 ACCORD CM5 Headlights Lamps Set JDM STANLEY P3349 | eBay Is that it? Do I just put my current HID bulbs in and that's it? I do like the way these look!

@Shumax1, did you buy an HID kit with re-based "drop-in" HID capsules to replace your original halogen bulbs? If so, they will not fit that JDM Stanley setup on that eBay link, nor would you want them ... that JDM setup already has HID capsules installed. More than likely they are a quality D2R HID capsule from a reputable mfgr like Philips, Osram, Hella, Voszla, etc.

I think either this one for the black housed:

or this one for the chrome:

And they even make plug/play harnesses but I'm sure you can make them for way cheaper. Right now I currently have mine just butt connected for the turn/parking lights, so I'll need to insulate with electrical tape or solder them for a better connection.

This is the only pic I have so far of the output, but as you can see the cutoff, even with the reflector housing is pretty good. I think the have 6000k color temp Philips D2S bulbs in there for the low beams
