How high does your hand-brake go?

I live in Vancouver, it's no different than San Francisco. I usually park on 20% steep hills or driveways, and I have a tendency to pull the hand-break to a point where it is vertical. Normal or Not? What is the recommended position?

I kid you not. I'll post a picture by tomorrow.

The handbrake mechanism was changed in Gen8 to give a more progressive pull on cable, so you don't need to many clicks to engage brakes. Mine hardly moves to get brakes locked up.

<--- Pulls maybe 2 clicks if that much, Its very tight and sensitive....

For every Honda I know, I believe the clicks should be between 6-8 with moderate to heavy pressure. You don't want to pull too hard or you can stretch the cable out. The e-brake does need adjustment every now and then though.

I think I tried mine once and it was just a few clicks...3 tops.

Why are there so many conflicting answers here? Are some of us yanking it with all our strength and others being very gentle with it?
It depends how you apply the hand-brake.
If you apply hand brake without brakes applied you get like 3 clicks max.
If you apply hand brake with your foot on the brake, then you get like 6 clicks.
Reason why is your applying pressure to the pads and applying pressure the hand brake would have to if you didn't hit brakes.

arasheht,

Same here. Close to pointing to the roof.

This is adjustable. I don't know if Princess posted the instructions but the adjustment is in the console under next to the brake lever.

My TL took too many clicks. A simple adjustment and it was honned into the 6-8 clicks, which is normal for Hondas.

I am under the impression (by this I mean almost 100% positive) that the E-brake/parking brake system is not tied to the disk brakes. Instead, you should find a small brake drum behind one of the rear wheels. This is the component that is used to keep the car from moving when the parking brake is engaged. Therefore, it shouldn't have anything to do with whether you have your foot on the brake or not.

Lemme see if I can find the instructions for how to adjust this on the TL/Accord....it is simple.

I get around 7-8 clicks before it gets too tight, and that's when I stop. No more than 8 for me (yes, I count the clicks whenever I apply the e-brake  ). That's how it was with the Camry too.

This doesn't happen in either of my Accords. :dunno:

Do you have a 2008 Accord ?
I tried it a few times and have hard time believing the disc brakes aren't tied to it.
try it yourself for those with 08.

Edit: here rear brake parts with handbrake, you can see adjustment for cable and it attaches to lever on rear caliper.
