I have 4700 miles on my V6, and show 40%. I know there are supposed to be many variables that go into calculating the percent remaining. I was curious to here how many miles it took others to get to the 15%.

Getting that itch to change the oil right? You must live in a place that gets cold and not very hot in the fall or spring. Based on that I would say your vehicle is doing 6000 mile OCIs. I know down here in southwest with the heat already significant in this Fall already, you would not have a 40% @ 4700 which is about a 6000 mile OCI. The reason is cause you live in moderate temp/climate where intervals are longer then the ~5000-ish everywhere else. My conclusion is based solely on climate and my observations here and excludes extreme driving or abuse.

my dealer told me that i should wait for 15% oil life before change oil. chicago area here.

4300 miles and 60%. You will realize from the answers you get that there is no magic 'time' or 'mileage' to reach the 15%.
But when YOU do, that is when YOU should change your oil. :)

The New Normal for Oil Changes

Thanks for all the replies. I had no idea what a wide range of miles were being experienced. As suspected, as I was getting close to 5K, I was getting the oil change itch. Technology is great when it works. In the case of the percent remaining, if it isn't functioning properly, the result could be nasty. Maybe I have a trust issue. Maybe I'm too old school. I do love my car.

I had an Acura TSX before this, the oil changes used to last 7500-8000 miles between trips.

I resisted these for many years. Finally decided to mostly trust them. One convincing argument was that mfgs are accepting OLM change recommendations wrt their 100K powertrain warranties. Another is that 7500 mile intervals had been their recommended standard for years. As it is, except for wife's Civic, we normally never come close before hitting the annual mark.

I drive mostly highway, although my car sits for 2-3 days at a time sometimes (I telecommute for work 4 days a week). I know this killed my battery in 2 years on my old 2010 TSX, but it never seemed to affect the oil. I did, however, leave the car parked outside for a week last January and lost 10% off my oil life...

I have never been on an interstate with my car (figuratively) and went to 70% in less than 2000 miles....the minder (and the car) hates total stop and go driving less than 5 miles in a trip....
And that there be a good part of it that I understand and have come to respect wrt OLMs. My driving is nominally 85 percent uncongested 75/80mph highway at up to temp 25 mile trips. Couple that with long, to the east coast vacation travel and oil life goes to almost forever. Wife's car used as a 10 mile commuter comes up a lot shorter.
