Hey folks,

I was wondering how much people set aside or spend annually on maintenance/repairs for their 2.0L 10th gen accords? I posted earlier about how I recently learned (correctly or incorrectly seems to be up in the air) that 2.0L accord engines due to their turbo may not be as reliable. Many folks mentioned its all about if I'm willing to pay, so I was just wondering how much folks around here budget/set aside annually to maintain their 2L accords.

Thanks!

The amount budgeted per year depends on TONS of different factors.

In terms of maintenance, intervals are determined by the maintenance minder system. You can look up the different maintenance items in the owners manual (which is available online if you don't own an Accord).

Your spending on maintenance will depend on how much you drive- and the determination of the maintenance minder system- which tells you when service is needed- and will tell you what is needed.

While under warranty, I normally spend about $200-250 per year on basic oil changes, tire rotations, and the general inspection that my mechanic does. That's for two visits per year, roughly at 7-8,000 mile intervals. (Again, the maintenance minder system determines when service is needed based on your driving)

I don't budget anything for repairs- as my car is fully under warranty. I don't necessarily have an "emergency fund" dedicated to just car repairs- at least for the other car in my driveway- which has tons of miles on it. I do have a sizable general emergency fund that I use for home repairs, car repairs, or any other unexpected expenses. It's large enough to cover any repair that I would be willing to do on my wife's Camry- which is fourteen years old and has 180,000 miles... or to pay to have my roof repaired if it leaked... or replace my hot water heater... or whatever else. Anything above that amount in my emergency fund would likely cause me to junk the car. Heck- I recently got a quote of about $1500 to replace the struts, which are nearing the end of their lives. My wife and I are seriously considering just trading the car in rather than dumping $1500 into a car with 180,000 miles... especially given that it's a hybrid on its original battery.

So between my two cars- I budget about $800 per year in regular maintenance. The Camry gets a little more love because it is older and small things are wearing out, which usually results in higher annual costs.

Your spending will be determined on how much you drive and where you take your car for maintenance and repairs. A local dealership can provide you with whatever they charge for each service listed in the owners manual based on the codes that will be displayed by the maintenance minder. How much you budget for out-of-warranty repairs is up to you.

How much to set aside for repairs? Hmmm… This is an Accord we’re talking about, and a relatively new one at that… sure, as with any car, once it gets up there in age and mileage, little things might go wrong here and there, but that’s not the case with 10th gen yet. If you’re getting a new one, no need to worry. If going used, just make sure it’s been taken care of and if in doubt, get the HondaCare (shop around online) before factory warranty expires.

I’ve set aside $0 and have spent $0 out of pocket for maintenance over almost 9 months and 12k miles. I did buy a maintenance package that was a bit overpriced, but even that comes out to about $360 a year, which is about ~$150-200 more than a newer Accord needs each year lol. Oh well.. it’s really not bad at all.

I've owned 2 Accords, an Acura CL Type S (6spd), and a CR-V. All of which went well over 100,000 miles and a decade or more of ownership, with no budget-breaking repairs. We now own a 2017 CR-V and a 2018 Accord Touring 2.0. And likewise for them---just routine maintenance. Given this ownership experience, I don't bother to budget for major repairs.

Never understood the whole "budget for a new car maintenance" deal...
It's like saying: what should I "budget for gas"?
You just pay it when you have to. ..it's all part of ownership.

I think what OP meant is maintenance for an older Accord like something that’s 10+ year old or has 150k mile or more. Budgeting 2-3k for something like a failed trans would make sense especially if one is on a tighter budget. But yeah, other than that, there’s nothing major to look out for the most part for a newer Accord unless if you got a lemon or an abused Accord, which you should’ve gotten rid of / never bought to begin with.

My Accord has 154k miles. I don't budget a dime. I turn the key on and it goes "mmmmmm" and it takes me wherever I want to go. If you insist on a budget, regular maintenance is all. At 95k miles you'll need a timing belt kit, buy OEM or Aisin, $900 - 1,100. Spark plugs, tires, battery, fluid changes including AT can all be projected by the amount of mileage you put on the car annually.

I have no idea what he could have meant, so I have to go with what he asked, which is what the maintenance costs would be on a 2018+ 2.0L engine...

A ten year old car is a whole different animal.

Just got back from my 9-12 month service from Honda for an oil change $50.20 full synthetic. Besides that swap out the tires for snows in November, change the cabin air filter once a year and keep it clean. Car too new to have any real known problems beyond that AC condenser leak which is warrantied for 10 years.

based on my 45 years of experience with Hondas, including 42 with Accords, for the first 10 years, maybe $100/year,
later on, on average maybe twice that, my longest Accord was with 350K km, I scrapped it after 18years, mind you I am doing my own maintenance

Let's say you want to own 7 years and do none of the work yourself. Here's a quick guess.

1400 Hondacare
800 brakes
13 oil changes @$45 =585
2 brake fluid changes at dealer 200
1 atf change 100
750 tires
__
$3835

If you want to roll the dice and forego Hondacare, cuts it down big time. IMO the best way is to get the Hondacare and do the rest of the stuff yourself.

Without knowing your annual mileage, this question is moot. I have a Honda Accord Touring 2.0L Hybrid that is two years old. Other than oil changes, recalls and some minor noise tracking (the HUD particularly) this has been a very reliable car.

Nonetheless, without knowing your mileage, there's no way to estimate your annual maintenance.

I tell my kids keep $1000 set aside for unexpected stuff either way. Never know when you may pop a tires or need an alternator.
Keep in a interest beating account so it grows some anyway.
They did take my advise and pay off their credit cards every month 😍

I have a 2020 Hybrid base model that would be one year in 2 months and by then it would have about 30,000 miles.

I personally believe and hope that I will not do any repairs but regular maintenance up to the car gets to 120,000 miles. I am hoping nothing out of the ordinary fails before that time. So, if anything fails after that, I will use the $1,200 I had to use to buy HondaCare before I changed my mind against it since this is a Honda and I have the base model with less electronic things to fail.

I am hoping this would be the most reliable car I would ever own. I will always treat it right with very good maintenance and hope it returns the favor.

I haven't had my 2019 Accord long enough to really need to do anything to it yet other than rotating tires.

I owned a 2014 Accord with 115,000 miles on it when I traded it for the 2019. IN the 4 years that I owned it, all I had to do was the basic maintenance, tires, brakes, oil and two batteries. I go to a shop that allows me to bring in my own brake pads and they install for one hour labor.

The last few Hondas I owned were the most trouble free cars that I have ever owned.
