I have a 2018 accord I’ve been unable to connect my phone to my car via Bluetooth due to previously connected devices. Without having a touch screen, I’ve been incredibly lost trying to figure out how to fix this, and google has not been my friend on this issue, as the only solutions I can find involve already having a phone paired to the car

Where are you that you do not have a touch screen on your 2018 Accord? Please post a picture of your head unit so we can better answer this question.

Did you ever figure this out? I just purchased a 2018 Accord LX and from what I can tell from reading the manual the LX has a different Head Unit than the other trims, we have a non-touch that they refer to as "Color Audio", every other trim from what I can tell has a different system referred to as the "Display Audio", this one is a touchscreen, functions entirely differently, has more features (Android Auto, OTA, etc).

When I purchased my 2018 Accord LX the Bluetooth Device list was full of devices from the prior owner, literally maxed, they had like 8 or so devices. This makes it so I can't pair my phone, it also makes it so I can't unpair any devices because in order to unpair you have to be able to get into a menu that's only accessible by hitting the "phone button", which only activates the menu if you have a connected device... which you can't do because the list is full... it's a catch-22 situation. This is CLEARLY a software bug. My friend and I who are both IT Geeks have spent about 8 hours searching for a solution, we've tried everything we could through the Diag Menu (Press 1, 6, and Power at the same time), tried removing fuses, removing the battery and draining power (Head Unit retains all settings except time, we believe it's probably stored in Non Volatile memory).

I'm -fairly- certain from posts and videos I've watched that there's a software update for the "Color Audio" head unit but this one doesn't get OTA updates like the "Display Audio" head unit does.

Tomorrow I'm going to contact my local Honda dealer to see what info they can provide and hopefully it's as simple as taking it in and getting a software update.

I'll update here with more information as things progress.

I have an appointment with my local Honda dealer this Friday. I'll definitely update after that. I spoke to a buddy that owns a car shop and he says that the worst case should really be that the dealer charges a minimal fee to do a full "reset" of the head unit to clear all the data. They weren't aware of any updates that could be done to resolve the bug so as far as I'm aware this is not a recognized bug by Honda.

I had my appointment today, it took about 2 hours for a bunch of the guys there to fidget around with the settings and do a "battery reset" (where you unplug the battery and touch both terminals together to depower the computer with the purpose of wiping out stored memory). They did some other stuff in the service area where I couldn't see what they were up to but the end result was that they were unsuccessful in wiping the memory of the head unit or removing a device. They told me I "need a whole new radio" and quoted me an excessive amount to replace it. I declined to pay for them to replace something that was broken from the manufacturer at which point they told me I should return my car to CarMax and purchase a new 2018 Honda Accord LX from them at the dealer. I declined, of course, and called Honda Corporate instead. I got through the first layer of customer service and my case has now been assigned to a "service agent" who will call me by end-of-day Tuesday, Nov 22nd.

I will update again after I'm called. The best case scenario at this point is that they'll pay for a replacement, however since I didn't purchase through them and don't have an extended warranty I have a suspicion that they're going to try and dodge paying for the replacement.

My last resort would be replacing the head unit entirely with an upgraded version that has a touchscreen and other nice features, we'll see how it all goes as I would rather use the money for other improvements and upgrades to the vehicle instead of replacing what should be a fully functioning head unit.

That you for your diligence and calling Honda. Their SW engineers really screwed the pooch on this stuff, didn't they think people would want to upgrade their phones every year ??

Hey even with "Display Audio" headunits have their quirks. I can't delete any radio presets! Battery reset dont do a damn! It is ridiculous!!!

Spoke to a rep at the "American Honda In-Car Technology" department today. The short version is that because there are no recalls regarding this manufacturer defect they're unable (unwilling) to help. I went back and forth with them on standing by their products, how this is a manufacturer defect, etc. It's obvious they really don't care, they've managed to sweep this under the rug for this long. They advised that I go back to the Honda Dealer and have them submit a request on my behalf and that perhaps doing that they could cover a PORTION of repair/replacement costs for the Head Unit.

I have more paths to pursue personally, perhaps CarMax would be willing to stand by their sale and help cover the cost of repair, especially since I'm still within my return period for the vehicle.

However, the real solution here would be to pressure American Honda into issuing a recall for this issue, and that only happens if enough people complain. My recommendation is that anyone with a 10th Generation Honda Accord call and complain about Bluetooth connectivity issues until they get it. I'll be seeking out owners of the 10th gen actively to recommend this course of action, especially LX owners with the non-touchscreen "Color Audio" Head Unit.

Hopefully this helps someone. I believe I figured out how to delete the paired list after almost 3 years! Disconnect from any paired device, click the phone on the steering wheel, select no, then select phone setup, then system clear! It should clear all paired devices!
