Here are the things you'll need:
1.) An Add-A-Fuse adapter

2.) A smart Passport Escort smart cord

3.) Zip ties
4.) 3M mounting tape.
5.) 7.5amp fuse

First, plug the Add A Fuse adapter into an open 7.5amp fuse slot in the fuse box under the driver side of the dashboard, like so:

Use a wire cutter to cut the end of the 12v part of the smart cord, and crimp it to the end of the add a fuse adapter. (making sure to also plug a 7.5amp fuse into the adapter)

Find a galvanized bolt, unscrew it, and attach the ground wire coming from the smart cord to the bolt.

Get a flat head screw driver and tuck the wire into the liner between the front and driver's windshield.

I ordered a rear-view mirror mount for my radar detector, but for now its just suction-cupped under the mirror.

Use the mounting tape to put the smart cord button wherever you feel is convenient. I put mine below my steering wheel temporarily, but I plan on putting it next to the traction control button like this guy did:

Depends on how you ran the wire from headliner down to fuse box.

If you ran the wire between driver side A-pillar and windshield you should be ok. The wire maybe exposed but it won't be in the way if the side airbag have to be deployed.

If you ran down the wire between A-pillar and (tucking it under) black door seal. Then wire will be on the way of the side airbag, which could be very dangerous if the airbag have to be deployed.

Also, if you go to your local Bestbuy, ask the car installation dept for a wire holder for wire size like the radar detector. It has a double sided tape on it. You can stick it onto the windshield and place the wire into the hook. The wire where it runs from RD to headliner will be cleaner and straight line. They might give it to you for free, mine did.

No but you basically run wire up the headliner then towards A-pillar, at A-pillar, pull the cover off, run cord above the airbag, and then down the side of the dash. Also, pulling weather/strip seal will make it a lot easier. Don't be afraid to pull if off. It's easy to put back.

2. Assuming you keep your RD on all the time, can you please describe the "sequence of events" when you start the car until the engine is running and the RD is stabilized? Reason I am asking is that I tried to hard-wire my RD and no matter which fuse I tapped into (I was hoping for the AUX Power fuse), when I start the car the RD is chirping, kind'a goes on/off a million miles an hour until the car is running. What I was hoping to get is the same delay that I have when it is soft-wired to the AUX socket - you start the car and the RD comes on few seconds after the car is running and all the lights are out.

Alrighty, well..

1. I picked up the Add-A-Fuse at a local AutoZone, but i'm sure any auto parts store like that would carry it. It's definitely not a micro fuse, and it does stick up, but it just makes them easier to change out.

2. Just like you described in the first situation, because I believe I wired to my radio fuse. After starting the car the RD quickly goes into its sequential startup sounds.

Great work! I looked over the reviews of the 9500ix and it looks to be a great detector. A year or so ago somebody scarfed my Valentine and just have never purchased a replacement. I rarely ever push the speed limits these days but it was just nice to have when traveling in unfamiliar areas and everybody gets loose with the throttle unwittingly once in awhile. I was looking at the Solo S3 just for the simplicity of battery power and no wires, but I'm not entirely sold on battery units yet. I wonder if placement on or near the dash would interfere in any way with the navigation antenna in the dash? In the manual they don't tell you the location of the antenna, they just say it's in the dash and can be interfered with the signal by other electronics if in close proximity.

If I were to make another purchase today the 9500ix and another Valentine would be at the top of my list..

That's very cool! Unfortunately, mine doesn't have a powered mirror, so I was forced to do it the long way. But if I had one, I'd be doing what you did!

Does the guy who did this have instructions on how he popped out that section? Also is it possible to order extra blanks for the ports in case I screw up drilling a whole in one. I tried looking online but no luck.

Pretty much how I wired my 8500...Only difference is that I use the visor clip...Forgot which fuse I tapped into, but it powers on when the car engine is started and shuts off when the car is turned off...

If you're wondering how to pop the blank out, I basically just laid down in my driver floorboard, reached my arm up and under the dash and unclipped it. It pushes out. It's clipped on similar to how the headlights are clipped on--a clip on each side. If you can't quite reach the button blank, maybe try a flathead and a flashlight!
