In ONE month I loose 10 quarts of oil and always have to top it off, I do not burn oil, no blue smoke ever, no oil in spark plugs, my rear main seal is good along with the valve cover, I clean under my motor and the only spot I found leaking oil is along side my oil pan, so before I go spending money what do you guys think it is? Oil pan gasket or other problem?

this is above where the oil filter tube runs into the oil filter.

this is the down pour of oil that leaks on my driveway. this is the oil pan on the passenger side.

these are the only places with fresh leaking oil, but don't know where it is leaking from

230kACCORD: That's a good size leak! Did you ever replace your fuel sending unit and other things from earlier this year? It'll be nice to know what fixed it!

It seems you're on the right track with the oil leak, assuming also it's not just above the oil filter or the oil filter gasket itself. As jdowen2 said, that seems to be very suspicious RTV sealant dangling from the oil pan and your mystery may be solved. I had a similar plight recently with massive oil loss on a '97. Did a methodical wash down/monitor/wash down/monitor/wash down/monitor starting from the top and it led me to suspect the oil pan. Dropped the exhaust, replaced the oil pan gasket, applied RTV sealant, and not a drop of oil in a couple of months.

It's only happened to me once, but I developed a leak on a non-Honda that I traced to a large o-ring that sits just before the oil filter spindle. $6 o-ring fixed that one. Not sure if your/our Hondas have that.

It sounds like you're on the right track with the oil pan gasket!

Good luck and keep us posted.

Regarding the red ATV that's been spoken about, it's seems very plausible to me that this oil pan has been removed at least once before. I say this because Honda didn't use any gaskets on our oil pans - all the v6 models to my knowledge - and instead used Honda Bond, which from my understanding is supposed to be the best sort of RTV out there.

Anyways, what I'm thinking happened here, is that somebody removed the oil pan for some reason in the past, replaced the oil pan and instead of using Honda Bond, got cheap (or didn't know) and used red RTV instead. As a result after so much time, it didn't hold up and is now leaking like a sieve.

How do I know all this oil pan stuff? Well....I gotta replace my oil pan because my oil pan drain bolt is stripped. FML, lol.
