Hello everyone, I recently came across a pretty good condition 2007 Accord v6 6 speed manual but unfortunately the owner told me that the timing belt blew and he had to replace it. He’s Been driving it for a while now and hasn’t had any issues but I don’t know if I want to risk it. I’ve done some research and I’m pretty sure that the J30a4 is not a interference engine but I wanted your guys opinions.
Would you trust a car after that?

Thanks in advance, Dbraund01.

It's possible there was no internal damage..
You could ask to get a borescope down the cylinders and that may calm your fears.
How does the engine sound?

my question is, if it was an interference engine, than why didn’t he have any bet valves?
Can you please read the Honda section before jumping to conclusions?

The engine sounds good. Honestly, it doesn’t sound 100% smooth but he said the plugs were starting to go on it.

I can read, but can you please check more sources and your particular engine next time.

Yeah I understand where your coming from. I just don’t understand how there is so much controversy in the subject. Can there not be an answer set in stone?

yourcarangel dot com, the ultimate authority on interference engines

what's the price and mileage?
I know man not the most renown website😂. It’s a little overpriced at $7000 CAD and only has 198000 kms on it (I’m Canadian btw). The reason for the low kms is when it first blew the chain, it sat for 2 years which is also pretty concerning.

Too much, but I don't know your market on cars right now.
Yeah I agree, Our market is pretty crazy . This is the only 6-6 in my province selling right now.

you don't say???

also idk what the current rate of maple syrup money to usd is but that already sounds like too much money for a 15 year old car with an interference motor that blew a timing belt

hard pass
Lol yeah I’m thinking so as well 😂😂

Interference engine doesn't automatically mean bent valves. You can get lucky more often than you think.

If there were bent valves the problems would have shown up by now.

If it makes you feel better you can do a compression test.

owns 2012 Honda Accord EX-L V6
It all depends on how desperate you are to get a 6-6. I almost paid 28.5k for 2017 6 6 , 6 months ago, but I paid way much less than that for a shiny v6 Accord sedan back in 2017.

Did it sit for 2 years outside or in a garage ? Have a trusted mechanic inspect it even though it may cost you a couple hundred $. A cars value to some owners is only what someone else will pay. A friend has a 2015 6-6 with 100K, he talks like it will "fund his retirement" when he sells it in several yrs. I told him it will be a car with 200K+ miles & they made a lot more than just 10. Keep looking if in doubt.
