My car does about 90% long distance interstate cruising and I just follow the maintenance minder with Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30. I find that the maintenance minder interval is about 7-8,000 miles. I did go as far as 10,000 miles between changes at one point as I had to do two back to back 1k+ mile trips... but I did check the oil level and it was still right on the mark. I assure you that I don't lose any sleep over it... I've driven a combined total of almost 400,000 miles on my Hondas and haven't killed an engine yet. My current K24 even has what I would consider to be a severe case of piston slap (it doesn't stop even when the engine is at full temp.) and it's still running strong with 138k miles. If it wasn't for the piston slap and the supposedly "weak" timing chain guides on the K24, I'd likely not even bother using synthetic.
